Sorry if it's the wrong forum.

Anyways, I'm going to save my b-day money, and my Chirstmas money, and maybe a little extra money if needed, and buy my dad a bass and an amp. So, what would be a decent bass an amp that is good, but not expensive?

He has a Crestline bass that is 25+ years old, with broken pickups, and no amp, if that helps.

And This:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-Ultrabass-BXL450A-45W-1x10-Aluminum-Cone-Bass-Combo?sku=481096

Ive sold a lot of those Ibanez basses and a lot of those little Behringer bass amps and people really seem to love them. That combo is a really rock solid beginner/budget set-up.

props man.
check out some squier bass's in the local shop and see what you can find, probibally a squier bass is good, then probibally a small fender bass amp would be the more popular choice, but if you can find a small amp that you like..check the stuff out

With lower priced instruments something like that shouldnt be a concern, IMO. Its when youre spending <$800 that technical stuff like that should come into play...........IMO lol

Hey ass wipe. The kid is 11. And Im sure his pop aint going to care what kind of wood the guitar is made out of. And jump off the "Behringer sucks" bandwagon, ok? Their GUITAR AMPS suck. Their bass gear is actually the best bang for your buck out there. This kid is being an awesome son and spending his own goddam cash for his dad who is more than likely just going to sit in his room and jam by himself. The gear doesnt have to be perfect, just good for the money. And thats what those products are. Inexpesive but good band for the buck.

dude wtf is your problem i didnt say **** to you personally so you dont have to act like im attacking you. this kid is being a good son so i think he deserves better than to waste his money on **** that will break. there is band wagon for a reason it's cause they suck yes there bass gear does. go to the bass forum and see how many people back me up on that. i never said he had to do what i said i just said at least not that amp. im not trying to get him to spend tons cause my **** was only 10 bux more than your and the amp asnt ****ing ****

Settle down tonto. jeez son. I dont care what the people in the bass forum have to say. As someone with a lot of experiance I know that something along the lines of what I suggested is the best way to go.

I'm not that up on bass stuff really... I just know that I prefer a Jazz style pickups to a P/P-J style bass/Soapbar/MM style pickup. So I'd go for a Jazz clone of some sort, going by Yamaha's guitar line I'd look into their basses. For an amp I've got no idea, ashdown make terrific stuff but I've got no idea how much their stuff costs.

I'll move this to the bass forum too, you'll probably get a better response.

Thanks everyone, especially Rageing_Bad_@$$ and kurtdtkobaign. The Behringer amp is probably the amp I'm going to buy, but I don't know what bass yet.

as far as the bass, i recommend Ibanez or Peavey. they offer the best sound quality
in their price range. as for the amp, Behringer gets my vote if your buying new, low budget equipt. but you could probably find a used Peavey TNT amp for the same money, and be getting alot more amp, for the money.

Ashdown does make really good stuff. They have an awesome little 4x10 combo that I love to play on at work . But unfortunately Ashdown bass stuff, even their little tiny bass combos, are really expensive.

I had a feeling they'd be too expensive... I just thought they might have a little cheap gem or something.

dude, ashdown's MAG 115 combo (300W) is 350 dollars...thats not expensive at all by bass amp standards...thats actually a hell of a bargain.

as for the threadstarters question...take a look at these

I've played all of those basses except for the Squier MB4, and they are all pretty solid for beginner basses. I'd recommend staying away from Rogue basses.
