just wondering what songs people here think are the most difficult to play - techniques, speed, accuracy etc.

my personal nomination at the moment - in the name of god (dream theater) mainly the guitar/keyboard interlude

no flaming in this thread please.

it took you 15 consecutive hours of practice to realize that playing guitar makes you better at playing guitar. congratulations.

Anything Guthrie plays when he's feeling frisky, I'd say.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice.

Serrana, pretty hard, and yeah Cacophony isnt easy stuff, Vai's stuff never seems to be played well, but a lot of shred songs arent played that well.
#15
Vai, Lane, Johnson, Gilbert, really they are all extremely difficult in their own senses.
I have nothing to put in here.
#16
I would say that many of Thal's songs are also exceedingly difficult. I could be wrong though D:, I've never attempted to play them.

Race With The Devil On Spansih Highway - Al Di Meola (not for the speed but for the sake of rhythm)

Yeah, anything by Guthrie, Vai, Johnson or Lane.

I'd like to add thats its also the subtleties of these players that make it near impossible to duplicate their work. (Whether i like Johnson's lead style or not, its brilliant)

The Bumblefoot song "Vomit" where he uses a thimble to play it. It gets pretty ridiculous.

Thats exactly why paganini had to tour. Thats what they all said.

Course, it may have helped that he had roughly half the scale length, and was tuned in 5ths.

That, is of course, a violin piece. It may entertain you to know that i can play just about the first bar.

I think you guys are overrating Becker in terms of difficultly to play.

Ive got to agree with Beckerism here. I mean, not that I can play any of Beckers stuff completely but it doesn't seem outwith the realms of possibility that one day I may be abe to play some of his stuff. Whereas with guys like Fareri, Thal, Lane, Cooley, Buckethead (minus a few of his easier songs ie. Welcome to Bucketheadland) etc I get the idea that theres nowhere in hell that I'll ever be able to even think about playing any of their stuff. Which may be one of the reasons why I like Beckers/Cacophonys music more than a lot of those guys songs

Hardest for who? You? Me? Eric Johnson? I would say it all depends on the skill level of the people involved. To Billy Joe Armstrong of GreenDay, 'Juice' from Vai would be a bitch to learn. For, let's say, Warren DiMartini, the degree of difficulty would probably be less, but the result the same... someone else missing the original feel of another artist's song. Which brings me to my next point... WHO CARES? Write the next 'Hardest Shred Song', hell, name it 'Hardest Shred Song' for all I care... just BE ORIGINAL! Music needs more of that.
#35
Yes what is hard. Paul Gilbert plays a stringskipping lick in intense rock I which requires fretting the 12th, 15th and 19th frett on the low E. I can do that only when I am with my nose on the strings because my fingers just shorter than his. For him it seems to be an easy lick.
