Is the very beginning of Eugune's Trick Bag by Steve Vai (right after the trill/legato thing at the 2nd fret of the g string) sweep picking or alternate picking?

If it is sweep picking, how do I play 2 notes on one string while still sweeping (in the tab I have it doesn't say it as hammerons or pulloffs)

Here's the part I'm talking about:

E-------------------8-12-8-------------|
B----------------10--------10----------|
G--------------9--------------9-5------|
D---------7-10--------------------7----|
A-------7---------------------------5--|
E--5-8-------------------------------8|
P.M...|

E----------------4-7-4------------|
B--------------5-------5----------|
G----------4-7-----------7-4------|
D--------6-------------------6----|
A----5-7-----------------------7-5|
E--7------------------------------|

E------------------5--------------|
B--------------5-0---0-5----------|
G------------6-----------6--------|
D--------5-7---------------7-5----|
A----4-7-----------------------7-4|
E--5------------------------------|

E------------------10-13-10---------------|
B---------------10----------10------------|
G----------7-10----------------10-7-------|
D--------7--------------------------7-----|
A----5-8----------------------------------|
E--5----------------------------------10-8|

E---------------------------------------|
B--------------------9-12-9-------------|
G-----------------10--------10-7--------|
D------------9-12----------------9-6----|
A-------8-11-------------------------8--|
E--7-10--------------------------------7|

E-----------------------5---8----12-8-16~~~|
B-------------------5-----5---10-----------|
G---------------5-----5--------------------|
D-----------7-----7------------------------|
A-----7-------7----------------------------|
E---5---8----------------------------------|

Thanks a lot in advance for any tips guys.
what is the music theory and what does it teach you, like scales, solos, and to build speed???

Alternate picked. And yeah, it's damn hard to do it at the speed he does it at, I'm working on it though.
Peace
I have nothing to put in here.

Give up and learn to play like Ry Cooder. Then respect.

Starting each phrase with an upstroke might also make things easier, but I'm no expert.
How may The National D help you waste your time?

Go back to your cave.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice.
