Purchased a 1981 JCM800 origianl with drake transformers

I just need a cab to go with it. I was thinking about an Avatar speakers 4x12

Either V30s or G12s.

I know V30s are very popular, but they sound good with most amps, but I wonder if the G12s would sound beter for rock/metal because they have beter low-end apparntly.

Playing rock. metal/yngwie stuff

Any ideas. Anyone prefer one over the other for Marshall head?

BTW- anyonw know exactly how the head + cab are powered/work
. My first non combo amp.
I got a 100W head, and I am curious how it will power 240W of 4x12 V30s.
It seem slike the 120W of G12 is beter match because similar wattage. Anyone is able to explain?

I prefer the V30s they just sound better. than the G12 and your clearly confused on wattage. 4 V30s is gonna be 280 watts while 4 G12s is gonna be 300 watts. and similar wattage doesnt matter as long as its more than your head its fine. so 2 V30s will do the trick the idea is they can handle up to 280 watts of power.

do you understand i kinda rambled

nice amp. out of curiousity what is the serial # on it? IMO a 1960A cab with vintage 30's sound best (mosty for classic stuff). the G12's might be a little better for more modern stuff

01295n -------s/n

can't wait to hook it up :p

4 Celestion Vintage 30s 8 ohm cab 240 watts
4 Celestion G12H30 8 ohm cab 120 watts

From avatars website

Hence, I thought it was 120W. Strange discrepency, 300 vs 120

Anyways, I am going to use Attenuator, and in doing so i hear lower watt speakers are beter, no clue if its true

some ppl say V30s are over hyped because everyone uses them. I thougth the G12 since beter Low/mid range would be beter for hard rock/metal stuff.

ok your right when you said G12 i assumed the G12T75 not the G12H30 out of those two i would choose the V30 but thats just me also look into the greenbacks very nice speakers as well

hmm, ya the G12H30. 120W total. which do you think is beter for JCm800 stuff used with a pedal.

V30s are good, but I'm looking for warm mids (any recommendations?)

I don't think 120w will be enough for the speaker load. JCM800's can peak up to 180w

I thin the speaker wattage is the maximum before it is dammaged, so at lower wattage speakers will use the same ammount of power as higher wattage right?
so a 100W head uses 100W no matter if using 30watters or 60 watters

if speakers sound their best at their maximum wattage, would G12H30s sould beter at vintage 30s because their at the max (120W) where as V30s max is 240?

this is right, right?

anyone reccomed G12H30 over V30s for Marshall amps.
anyone has tried both and prefre one over the other and why

If you can't decide why don't you just mix em?

Bogner Uberkabs mix a pair of v30's with a pair of GT12's and they sound great.

call up avatar and have them do a custom order for the cab.
Ibanez -> Peavey -> Eardrums

Apparently I'm on some list of people to listen to..?

^^^^Thats a great idea, thanks

I'm curious about mixing. X or top/bottom?

Anyone know of any ppl who mixd and their experiece?
Does it really get the best of both worlds? (Good parts of V30 and good parts of G12)

or is it some hybrid new tone formed by mixing

Thanks for the suggestion
