Don't listen to this guy, he's quite biased with the Spyder rage.
Threadstarter, are you willing to go used?

I prefer to buy new because I don't need to jump on the oppertunity (sp?) to get used at a good price. But if I'm able to get a used amp for a good deal, I would take it.

Well, if you had a monster cable, I'd have to suggest something else. But a Planet Waves Cable... go for it. You're clearly a man on a mission.

planet wave cables are bad? I thought those circuit break cables were good. they aren't? how are monster cables better?

No, planet waves are fine cables. I use them myself. I just thought it was funny that you mentioned the kind of cable you had, like it would be a huge factor in deciding what amp to get.

Im not going to recomend the flex for giging but it can be done, I have already seen 2 different bands, one using a flex III and one using a spider, and the other guitarists in the bands were both using a peavey 5150. Now when they were setting up I almost burst into tears/laughter when then spider was played followed by the 5150, is just tore off all 8 of its legs though the line 6 products were always the quiter of the guitars in both situations, and you shouldnt wonder why.

If you were just going to be recording I would say go for a POD and buy any kind of power amp for monitoring, but you can also plug the POD directly into the venue's PA to and really the quality wont be any different from the flex. Now to be exact I think im starting to recomend the POD over the flex, I myself just have a $30 power amp and a yamaha speaker cab on my POD XTL and in live situations the POD just serves as an effects pedal

I have to agree with the previous guy, I have a setup just at home, hopefully eventually gigging, based around a POD XT into a Power Amp into a Cabinet, and it's a lot more versatile IMO than a Flextone... loud as holy hell, sounds great to me if you're not a purist against solid-state / modelling / etc, and gives you the ability to really hit the sound of ALL those different bands, which is pretty much impossible otherwise cost-wise.
#16
i thought the POD XT was basically in the same product range as the Flextone, and that the pod xt evolved from the flextone because ppl wanted the flextone in a small form factor.

what exactly is the pod xt? it is just something with different sound effects or somthing? how exactly does it work?

If you notice on this forum (Like there is on many). There is a search function.
By using this you can search all the threads that have been created to see if
anyones asked a similar question and you can see what answers they got, it saves
waiting around for replies for one. This question has been asked a few times...
