That's right, any kind of song about Steve Irwin will be accepted. It can be about the good times before his death, his death, how his death has changed you, anything regarding him.

The song must be written by you and you may use any and all instruments possible. Vocals are preferred obviously, but hey, if you want to write an instrumental about Steve Irwin then good for you .

Entries are due 11 AM EST on Spet. 11, the one week anniversary (almost, EST is for my convenience) of Steve's death.

Judges:
-6stringwizard
-meh!
-zeppelinpage4

Entries include:
-A Requiem For Steve Irwin (SupImJimmy)

I'd be willing to assume the whole World Trade Center deal. I actually thought of it when I decided on the date but I didn't make any deal about it.

8,000 people died on July 11th, 1995, in a massacre in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

9,000 people died on October 28th, 1941, in a massacre in Lithuania.

10,000 people died on December 30th, 1941, in a massacre in Crimea.

16,000 people died on October 29th, 1942, in a massacre in Belarus.

20,000 people died on May 10th, 1631, in a massacre in Magdeburg.

30,000 people died in April 3rd, 1948, in a massacre in Korea.

35,000 people died on July 27th, 1943, in a massacre in Germany.

70,000 people died on August 24th, 1572, in a massacre in France.

25,700 people died as the result of massacre in 1940 in Poland.

30,000 people died as the result of massacre in January of 1932 in El Salvador.

33,771 people died from massacre on the last two days of September of 1941 in Ukraine.

65,000 people died as the result of massacre in 1904 in German South West Africa.

100,000 people died from massacre in February of 1943 in Unkraine.

100,000 people died from massacre in February of 1944 in the Philippines.

100,000 people died from massacre in 1950 in Korea.

Between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people were massacred in 1965 and 1966 in Indonesia.

Over 400,000 people have died in a current massacre that's been going on since 2003 in Sudan.

The 2,992 people from September 11th are tragic, but the amount of attention we put on them is bizarre, to say the least.

Anyways, here's my entry:
http://horriblemusic.dmusic.com

Lyrics:
Way down under in the Austrialian lands
Came a crikey of a guy who was no ordinary man
We always wore brown, always ready to pounce
He was a man of steel with a like-minded spouse
They call him the hunter, the hunter of crocs
But the truth is he'd never hurt a fox
Delicate, but zealous in mind
His energy inspired all of his time
Yet down in the waters of a great, great reef
A devil-sent sting ray met this wildlife king
Through his heart, of which held so much love
Pierced a sharp sting that sent him to the great above

...Jeff Corwin? Please!

There was this bloke
Called Steve
His last name was Irwin
Yep his last name was Irwin
He did some stupid things
And got himself killed
And now he's dead
Yep now he's dead
Now all the people
Say RIP
Say RIP
To Steve
Because he's dead
And he did some stupid things
And got killed by a fish.

edit- didn't get round to recording it yet.

Haven't listened to the song yet, but don't think I was saying that September 11th was some monumental day because nothing like that has every happened before. I was just pointing out what he/she was obviously making reference to. However, I understand that it was a sad day for American citizens especially. But back to thread matters..

EDIT: Oh and I liked your song .

Yeah, I was directing that at Aracadia, not you

Your quote just seemed like the best thing to make reference to

There's nothing unusual about people being sad over the death of someone who was loved around the world. That's normal.

The deaths on 9/11 weren't celebrity deaths. The only fitting mournings would be of individual families for indivudual deceased family members.

Steve Irwin was a national icon and he just died yesterday. I believe there's reason enough to have ourselves a little memorial here.

He was a worldwide loved figure who died a couple of days ago, people are going to talk about him. What I find bizarre is Princess Diana on the front of the Daily Express at least once a week, when she died 9 years ago and they can't let her R.I.P. Must be terrible for her lads too.

Abnyway bacl to the thread, is it still 11th Sept the closing date?

Man what an awesome voice

I wish I had a voice like that. I have a bunch of songs that I can't even provide vocals for

Nice song with a great vibe. Only thing is, there was one part where the vocals were really low, and I couldn't hear what you were saying.

Just so everyone knows, I'm in this thing. I just did a rough recording which I plan to fix up tomorrow.
They say the old woman's got the wisdom

I think this is more strange for the fact that it was one man dying, sure yeah I'd be sad if one of my heroes died, but it's mainly people who have watched him on tv once saying RIP to him. How many other Australians died that day? That's just as tragic. But you get over it.

And Stingray don't attack unless they are provoked.

It was more the stringray feeling boxed in than Steve provoking it, the way I heard about it. Steve was above the ray and a camera man was far ahead, unaware that Steve was approaching from behind. When the ray felt boxed in from the two, that's when Steve was stabbed (for lack of better word).

Anyway, I'd listen to the new songs now but I'm at school so I have to wait until I get home. I may be able to get mine recorded today too.

^ Yep, ditto to the explanation of the whole ray incident.

Pretty nice

I really like the spoken-word parts, and the solo's pretty cool too.

If you can extend the date to the 14th, I'll put up a recording as well.
#34
Um... I suppose that may be a possiblity. What's the reason for the delay?

My song is now posted at this website.

I think it turned out well... I did a little improv solo at the end that I think ended up nice.

RIP Steve...

^ Hm, it said "song not found".

It actually skipped to "This Song is Not Pat" while I wasn't looking and, for the first 2 minutes or so, I thought that was your Steve Irwin song. I was suprised that it was an instrumental

Then I saw the title, and realized what had happened...
#37
"Oi crikey!"

Ah, very nice. I really the solo-ish thing that comes after that part, too.

"The Crocodile-Huntin' Man"

That's not a bad title - perhaps even better than the "Crocodile Hunter"

Cool guitar solo at the end. Overall another sweet submission

Is there one contestant left?
