I don't know much about earplugs and all that but maybe you could go to your doctor and ask them about getting some. They'll custom fit them to your ears. They block out the high pitches that damage your ear but leave the sound unaltered. Not sure about price though.

Hearos High Fidelity Plugs, work great, and it doesn't sound like you're standing next to a subwoofer like others. Something about flat frequency, i dunno they sound good.
