Are there any pickups that give that vintage thick lead sound with upped mids and stuff that arent too expensive?

I'd say country or bluegrass would be pretty difficult, for being inbred is a pre-requisite

Look at some Swinshead pickups, amazing, cheap and so on, they're like half the price of regular pickups.

If by cheap you mean £50ish then definately Swineshead pups http://www.swinesheadpickups.co.uk/
Like RHCP said they are cheap but they sound awesome
They do a few Vintage sounding ones (i think the Condor and Runaway are intended for that but you'll have to check the site to be sure).
