I'm fortunate enough to be in a class called Social History of Rock and Roll. Next Friday we're supposed to bring in songs that are about or have references to Elvis in them, but I can't think of any. Ideally it's supposed to fit your preference of music too, so I'm looking for some classic rock type songs that can be related to Elvis.

This isn't classic rock but sounds very folky. Gillian Welch's "Elvis Presley Blues". I know not classi rock but a lot of references and such. You said you were looking for some classic rock songs but I wasn't sure if they needed to be CR.

Thanks guys, I particularly like "Calling Elvis."

I'm also gonna need one that's just about Rock n' Roll, I have a few ideas but I wonder if anyone else has any suggestions.

I think there is a new country song about about the day Elvis died...

Sorry I don't know what it's called.

"The king is gone, but he's not forgotten..." - Neil Young, Rockin' In The Free World

That's actually from 'Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)'.

And as for general rock 'n' roll, perhaps Don McLean's 'American Pie'?

Except it was about "The Day the Music Died" - ie. Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

There's "Elvis is Dead" by the Forgotten Rebels!!

Chris' wife, Jacqui

P.S. Chris also says "Everything Zen" by Bush has an Elvis reference "I don't believe that Elvis is dead".

"While the king was looking down, the jester stole his thorny crown"
I believe this is a reference to Elvis going into the Army and for a time being replaced by I think by Jerry Lee Lewis (The Killer) as the most ppular American artist.
