I've been playing for about 2 1/2 years and I was wondering what some cool solos would be. Just name some that someone playing as long as I have should be able to do thanks. Dont ask what I play just recommend anything.

with two and half years of practice, you should be able to play about any solo you want to.

Yeah I dont think so because I to would be way behind.

your both way behind. it doesnt take much skill to play a solo someone else came up with.
#11
no it doesnt. it takes a little practice but you can not know any scales or licks yourself and play someone elses solo

Sorry, but the pure physical and mechanical element of playing a solo isn't always quite that easy.

Sure, technically, anyone should be able to play anything if they've had enough practice, but the truth is, not everyone catches on to things like sweep picking and shredding simply from playing alot.

I think i am going to have to take the middle ground here. It really depends if you truly love music and guitar is you favorite thing to do. If you play three hours a day 24/7 365 for two and a half years then you should be pretty dam good. But unfortunatly not all of us can play that much (no matter how we might want to) because of school/homework, a job, a kid, girl/boyfriend or all of the above.
I have been playing for about a year and a half, and i am just begining to do solo matieral. (personaly i like to do fast chord progressions and riffs)
It also depends on what kind of music you like, if you like fast thrash metal, classic rock or another of the God worthy music genres then you will definently want to solo, but if you like most modern crap then mabey not.
but i would say that after three years you should be soloing pretty dam well

AS for fun solos to play:
anything AC/DC, warpigs-iron man-- Black Sabbath, any megadeth, free bird- lynyrd skynyrd!

Yeah I'm going to agree with last messenger, most of the music I have been playing is all rythem guitar which in my opinion I'm pretty good at I play live with my church band every wednesday and sunday as the 2 second rythem guitar. An as for soloing I really just started trying to play really lead a month or two ago I'm decent but nothing great I do better making up my own leads. But before that It was mostly just punk and rythem, the reason I starting to learn to solo was because of our lead guitarist at church leaving soon and he asked me to take over for him so I can play lead which I played at my church a couple times but I'm really just starting with it.

right. this is why we see so many violin and guitar virtuoso's with 2 years experience.

everyone learns at a different speed, and as mentioned, not everyone can practice several hours a day. also highly dependent on what kind of music you're playing. Obviously practicing chords all day won't help you solo as much as practicing solos all day.

Three hours a day 24/7? How does that work?

Anyways, maybe the sad thing here that I have been playing a lot.

Anywhere from 5 to 15 hours a week, almost every week, for the past 2 years.

Still, I'm nowhere near mastering a solo like any of these:

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/i/isaac_albeniz/asturias_tab.htm (it's harder than it looks)

or

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/d/dream_theater/metropolis_part_tab.htm

If that means I suck, then very well then. I can live with that.

No that means your normally I dont believe 2 years practice is enough to be able to learn evey solo there is. Besides I cant play any of those songs either and I know a bunch of people who would say I'm good a guitar.

I would say to look at something like Sweet Child of Mine intro like butthead mentioned. Not particularly complex, i know exactly what the notes are, but to get the whole thing cleanly takes a lot of skill and you can really get some good technique down working on it. Some other songs to look at are Welcome to the Jungle, Crossroads, or Dream On.

And the answer to your previous question is No. Stairway to Heaven is not a particularly difficult song to learn although its really intimidating to look at because they're all arpeggio's constantly. Just pay attention to the relationship between the different parts and the words and you can get it down pretty well within a week or so.

Alright thanks for all the suggestions and I got a question about sweet child o mine for the intro is it played like an arpegio or are you supposed to go to each note individually?

I meant should I hold out chords with my fingers when playing the individual notes or should I move my fingers from note to note while playing the individual note.

like wow, impressive. so now that youve mastered those shredtastic pieces of art you think you can do any solo in a years time? WRONG. also it takes a lot of time to learn accuracy and learn to play with tone. you can master those skills aswell?

sorry but i think theres a bunch of ppl here who are incredibly ignorant.

saying you can play any solo with 2.5 years of experience is bull****
