How would one go about when removing the frets of a guitar?

From a guitar like this, if that helps.

I want to be able to slide (and well, it's good ear training)

don't know what the thread you found says because like you said, the link doesn't work, but to remove frets heat them up some how. I like to use a clothes iron but a lot of people use a soldering iron, and then once the fret is hot pull it out is some sort of wire clippers. The ones that look like this work best.

Some people pry the frets out with a screw driver, but that does a lot of damage to your fretboard, and it can be a lot of work.

ok so i was right, when i said pry i ment with like plires or something, but do people really use a skrew driver? cuz thats dumb.... any ways dont forget to fill in the frets with wood or and inlay or something

soldering iron, and a screw driver works just fine. a number 2 flathead or smaller works fine, no damage to the fretboard at all.

What is the point in removeing the frets to play slide.
It would be easier and better to just raise the action at the bridge and replacing the plastic nut the epi specials have with a higher one.

Thanks to everyone that replied, I think I'll be going with this one http://www.unfretted.com/loader.php?LINK=/classes/em_defret2
using a soldering iron, wire clippers and well... I'll find something to make the fretboard smooth again

@Dave 293: Nah I've tried that, but I liked a defretted guitar better. Because you get the entire range of tones instead of jumping half a tone between the frets all the time.

I was thinking my victim would be this 80$ guitar I found online. Wish me luck!

Dude, you should NOT be having that problem if you're playing slide right.

Hm....? I don't think you understod what I meant. I meant that with frets the slides you're playing are like steps because of the frets. Without frets it's one "line" of tones

w/o frets a slide is like when you tune your guitar

Ah, right, you want to be able to do the technique slides, as opposed to playing in the style slide, sorry, my mistake.

But why did you, apparently, try this is you wanted to do the technique as opposed to the style?

^What he means is why did you raise the action if you wanted to slide not play with a slide.
Your wording got people alittle confused.

Thats the slide we were taking about.

A fretless guitar still would be pretty sweet, post pics when you start.

Ah, ok... well... I didn't raise the action. Playing with a slide on a fretted guitar isn't really... healthy. It sounds like you're beating it

^^I think it sounds fine, and so do a million other people, but it's your guitar, so fair enough

It does look pretty cool now you've done it though, so props to you for that.

Yeah well I don't like the bumps I get when I slide with a glass on a fretted guitar.

Thx

Well raising the action would've sorted you out, as I believe me and another guy said before, but, as I say, it's your guitar, if you're happy with the results then f*ck everyone's opinion, especially if they're a smart-arse like me
