How are these for a hard rock/metal rhythm guitar? I like a single coil tone for my playing, and the more complex harmonics they pick up, and I know to anticipate a crap load of single coild hum, like any tele.... but other than that, are they solid guitars that are good for what I want?

Or would I be better off with a set neck tele HH QMT with tapped humbuckers?

both are in my $500 price range.... I love telecasters!

I would seriously love one of the Aerodyne tele's with a P90 in the neck (i think they exist, i've definitely seen one).

All stock they should handle hard rock (think Tom Morello, he uses the strat version and i think the tele too) but i wouldn't go as far as metal. They just need the right pickups.

i think itll kick some ass, definitly. an HH setup with coil taps will do you good for a chunky rhythm, and mid heavy lead when you need to cut the mix when you need to, defintely a great buy if you dig the tele look, but want some balls, i say go for it, but make sure you try it out and see how you like.

that looks like it has a p-90 in the neck, but according to musiciansfriend, it's a soapbar pickup (which I'm assuming resembles a p-90).

that would be a p-90 with a soapbar cover, its actually just a p90 pickup without the classic dog ear cover

you bet those p90s exist! I love a GnR style rhythm sound, only with a bit more gain than Izzy used.
