If i got a set through neck of maple, would pine wings be ok? I've heard that pine is crap for guitars but would it be ok just for the wings?
thanks

From what I know, the main factor in tone for neck through guitars is the neck's tonewood.
It shouldn't matter too much, but I wouldn't use pine.

pine will sound awful. its not normally used because it sounds like crap.

how do those marshall handles compare tonewise to, say, mesa handles?

They use pine for acoustic guitars from time to time. The big reason pine isn't used more often is not because of the tone. It's because people automaticlally think that because pine is cheap it must be crap and it's because pine is somewhat hard to work with.

Pine wings should sound just fine. It will give you a bright airy tone with quick attack but not a lot of sustain
