Yngwie plays his custom Strats.
Steve plays his JEM customs.
Joe plays his JS customs.
John Petrucci plays his Ernie Ball/Music Man customs.
Paul Gilbert plays his PGM customs.

They're all radically different guitars. There is no "best guitar" for shred. It comes down to what fits your hands the best and unleashes your fury most easily.

Woah, calm down

A Suhr, undoubtedly... Until then, I haven't found anything that plays better than my trusty RG...

Cliché, I know.

Sorry, but I specificly wanted everyones opinion on what they think the best shred guitar is. Not what the pros play(not saying it wouldnt be a good idea to do that)

From what I've heard, Suhrs and Vigiers, but unfortunately I haven't played any of them. From the limited amount of guitars that I've played, the best out of them for shredding is the ibanez s470.

No no, mine are the Gilgamesh 4000XR(re:Shredding 4 Life's sig) and the Gilgamesh 4000XR-S(the one with the mother-of-pearl middle finger inlays, remember? I was giving this away as a prize for the "UG's Fastest Shredder" contest that never happened?)

hey listen man, this thread is pretty retarded, whaddya wanna do? pool all of our subjective opinions on a good "shred guitar" and do a statistical interpretation and data analysis of that and find out an objective truth to the ultimate shred guitar? idiot.

No, I just want a good list of some shred guitars and pick my favorite to buy. I knew there were going to be some ignorant and retarded post but not this many.

RG's are pretty dependable I hear. Lots of amateur guitarists use them, and they don't cost much.

Yeah for the money they're great.

Though I think I may personally end up getting a Schecter C1 Hellraiser for alternate tunings.

Amp first though.

I've got one good amp. I want to get another if i get a better guitar. I really just want something with a whammy bar and 24 frets. And the RG supplies that.

Yeah, I've got a bar and 24 frets. Now I want no bar and 24 frets. Floyd Roses make downtuning in anything other than Drop D nearly impossible.

I tune a few different tunings on my non floyd guitar. Usually:

Drop A
B Standard
Drop C

But that guitar is old and busted pretty much, so I need something new that I can rely on for stuff like that.

for me..i would say Musicman John petrucci (just a little ugly imo)

or Musicman Axis ( change the pickups..its very low output )
#37
If you are into really think necks, check out the custom Carvin's.

For me though, either a RGT220A, RGT320Q, or even possibly a Hellraiser...

not to be too late & everything, but man, u really gotta love that Gilgamesh 4000...

I was so envious after reading that he had one lol

but in terms of the best real guitar, I'd have to say an RR-style V, they kick a lot of ass imo

RG's get an honourable mention
