Symmetrical means identical, so symmetrical fingers must mean identical fingers... wtf? lol maybe I'm wrong...

Im not sure what it means, but if I had to guess, I'd say it had to do with the 2 patterns looking the same.

^Symmetrical means a reflection or mirror image of shape.

So, by symmetrical fingernig.. he means using the same fingers, but the opposite way.

So, if you were to go 1 - 2 - 4, the symmetrical fingering pattern would be 4 - 2 - 1.

Paul Gilbert did a lesson on symmetrical scales in TG

And in those were when you use the same fret pattern on each string, like:
