This thread has just sparked immense curiosity on my part. At first, I thought he meant B7 with a b13, but then I discovered that he meant Bb7 with a 13.

So, how do we write those chords so they are not confused?

when it coms to jazz, nearly all chords include the 7th (unless its stated not to)
so just assume when a chord is posted, it includes the seventh

Umm...that's not what I meant. I meant how do we know is Bb13 is supposed to be played with a Bb root and a natural 13, or if it's supposed to be B with a flat 13.

do you want a Bb13 chord, or do you want a Bb7(b13)?

Good man, Scheck. That makes sense.

Now how do you say those when you speak?

I'd think you'd say it like this:
Bb13: "B flat 13th"
Bb7(b13) "B flat 7th flat 13th"

but differentiating with weather you want a flat 7th or a natural 7th, i dont know.

If you're right, then for a natural 7th, you would say"B flat major thirteen" or "B major seven flat thirteen."

I can't really explain it, but perhaps it helps a bit! Well, the thing is.. When you have such a high number in the chord, there's probably a seventh in there! The seventh cancels out the need for an 'add'.

Bb13 = Bb7 + 13 b7 cancels out need for add
B(b13) = B + b13 Because it's just a B chord, you need the add signs: ()
Bbmaj13 = Bbmaj7 + 13 7 cancels out need for add
Bbmaj7b13 = Bbmaj7 + b13 Same here
