Me and some friends are doing a cover of Layla, and I need a distortion pedal to try to make my SS Randall sound Claptonesque. I know it won't sound great, but it will hopefully be better than my amps Classic Rock OD. I've been having some trouble finding the right pedal, as in one that isn't TehBr00tal DeTH MeTUul DisToRtiOn. Just something relatively smooth and tame.

Smooth ??

Try buying the DS-1 and mod it, easy, yet Vai-ish..............

Or, yeah............... go with the Tube Screamer yadda yadda yadaa
Tone is all ...... well probably 75%, in your fingers.
The rest depends on your wallet's thickness !!

Keep the faith, baby!!

a tube screamer wont be all that great on an SS, you could try a boss DS-1 as other peop;e have said, those seem to be pretty nice.
