Which is overall a better guitar?

If one were better than the other, Fender wouldn't make both.

If you want to know which one I like better, I'd say a strat.
#3
Tele FTW!

but he ^ is right, if one were clearly better, then the other obviously wouldn't be in production...

I love both. Which is why I'm having a hell of a time deciding which Fender I want.

Not only those two, but remember these too!

Mustang
Cyclone
Tele Deluxe
Fat Strat

Fender has so many options to choose from it makes it a pain to decide!

Strat. A Strat can sound like a les paul, but a les paul can never sound like a strat. Plus teles are good at what they can do, but they don't do much. Strat wins by versatility, and a secksi countoured body.

yeah i dont get it...
what type of music is a telle for and the same for strats?

Tele, country and blues, Strats Blues R&B, Soul, BLues Rock.
Amp:
Fender Blues Jr (GH1230 Celestion Speaker)

09' Olympic White Stratocaster

I have to give it to the Telecaster. It was the original electric guitar, and for the record I prefer the clean AND overdriven sounds of a tele compared to a strat.
Muddy Waters Tele - Signed by the members of Canned Heat

Well, both cover a huge, huge array of genres. It's hard to just say "Oh a Tele is for this genre and a Strat is for that genre."

You just can't do it. Both have been used extensively for tons of genres - to the point that really, either can play anything. It all comes down to which you prefer the feel and sound to. Yes, either can most likely play anything you want, but they both sound very different. So, it comes down to which you prefer. Some people prefer Teles, some Strats.

And then, there are the people like me who love them both.

strats can be more versatile if you get a humbucker in the bridge.

tele's can also come with humbuckers, but its usually 2H or none.

tele's weigh a bit more and like said, have more twang.

you can pretty much get ur tones with either with the right amp. ill vote strat, cause i like my strats more than my tele. but i still like my tele.

I love the Tele's OD sound but prefer the strat for cleans.

Tele has such a better style too. And everybody has a strat.

you mean like a fat strat? which has a humbucker on the bridge??

oh yeah, and which guitar (fender or not) would be good for a red hot chili pepers type sound?? I'm thinking probly a strat.
#26
yeah like a Fat strat.

and for rhcp i would pick a strat. but they are both usually single coil guitars.
and most of your tone comes from ur amp anyway.

in case anyone was wondering. #1 points to the bridge.
the "fat" sized pickup is a humbucker.

Fender Frontman 15R

play them both in an amp you can afford and decide which you like better
i would suggest trying both with humbuckers too,
(they are both available with humbuckers and singles together)
#34
OH MAN it'd be so hard to choose...I have a strat, you cannot beleive the range of sounds you can get with that beast. But I'd love to have a nice, red telecaster too...cherry red...
I'm sorry, I lost my mind for a second. But teles and strats...it completely depends on what kinda sound you want and/or what kinda music you want to play.
#35
I prefer Telecasters

if your going for stuff like blues or country i'd say a tele.

if your going for rock or punk or something, i would go with a strat for 3 reasons.

1. Humbuckers are easier to install after market on strats and some strats already come with the stock
2. Strats have tremelos so you could use a whammy bar or if not, you could set the bridge up to be parralell to the body to make a fixed bridge
3. the telle has 2 pickups, the strat has 3 and is somewhat more versitle

its your choice. Bolth are around the same price - you should try out bolth and see what you like.

Tele's rule, I own one and I love it. Your goal should be to own both at some point in your life cause they're both excellent guitars, but if you can only have one go with the Tele first, you wont regret it. Try to get an American Tele too !!
