You should be careful with this tuning. It'll have a tendency to snap your strings, especially the B string. I suggest getting some quite thick gauge strings.

Okay, you have 6 strings tuned normally, EADGBe. When you get a pack of strings for a 12-string guitar, you should have a set of normal strings and a set of thinner strings.

You have:
e - normal high E string
e - unison (same) to other high E
B - normal B string
B - unison to other B string
G - normal G string
G - one octave higher than other G string
D - normal D string
D - one octave higher than the other D string
A - normal A string
A - one octave higher than the other A string
E - normal low E string
E - one octave higher than the other low E string

The ones that are higher should have more tension.

This is how you should use this diagram to tune....

at the bottom of the diagram theres numbers 1 - 11. Start from 1 and work to 11.
But tune in this order: 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 11

the first set of number ( 2 4 6 8 10 ) is tuning the normal strings to standard tuning. the numbers after, are tuning the extra set.

You should know how to tune to standard, so ill skip that part, as for the second set of numbers ( 1 3 5 7 9 11 ), retune the bottom number to match the top number.

I dn't know of a way to do it exactly, since the frets are all half steps.

If I were you I'd try a chromatic tuner and try and gauge where half way between E and Eb is on your tuner.

Or I'd just tune down a bit, but not as far as Eb.

Tbh, I personally couldn't be bothered tuning a quarter step down.

I've never used it and never listened to a song that uses it, so I wouldn't know for sure.

However, it would depend on how good your ear is. A good ear and you'd hear the fifference, a not so good ear you probably wouldn't.

Try it in standard, if it sounds all right, great, if not, tune down a bit.

^Tune every string down a whole step until it matches the corresponding notes.

So.. tune low E down until it displays D, tune A down until it displays G... and so forth.

You only have to tune down one whole step, so you won't have to downtune that much until you get the required notes.. they're all natural notes, so they should display on any basic guitar tuner, too.

But.. if your tuner won't display F or C, then follow the instructions above on standard a whole step down..

  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string. (C)
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string. (F)

Assuming your guitar is already tuned normally with the tuner:

Push the "flat" button twice so that "bb" is displayed.

Tune the lowest string normally.

ive got a question just bought some thicker strings for my guitar here's what they are their ernie ball strings and the gauge are as followed 48, 38, 28, 18p, 14, 11 and when i try to get the EADGBe i dont get like half-step down and they feel like they are going to snap with alot of tention on them i was wondering is this was the right tuning patern or was there another one for thicker strings sry this is the first time that ive used thicker strings i always use the thin ones

I saw a guitar somewhere on here where the strings were wrapped around the bridge. The strings were strung through towards the tail-end of the guitar and then pulled back over towards the neck (hopw that made sense). What are some good and bad things about stringing like this? (I'll try to find a picture)

EDIT: I can't find a picture but it's for an Epi Les Paul Special II if that helps.

I doubt its for an electric at all. That how strings are strung in a clasical nylon string guitar.
