Yes another "recommend a guitar thread"

But i'm getting myself a new guitar and amp. I play mostly rock/metal so a cool distortion would be first priority. And i would like to get a Metallica like tone.

I've been looking at this guitar:
ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000

My budget for guitar + amp is 1500$ maybe 2000$ if it's worth the extra cash.

Feedback please.

well if you play lead.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-LTD-KH602-Kirk-Hammett-Signature-Guitar?sku=516641

Kirk Hammetts second best signature guitar (in the shape)

its got a OFL, EMG 81's, special inlays and its gonna be quite a cool buy. Just ive never heard of a maple body.

But thats a expensive guitar. if you wanna get their tone, focus more on an amp. Try get a nice high gain tube amp like a 6505 combo. then keep the guitar you have and save up to get a nice good quality guitar. if you cant save up get something with the leftover $500.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-JSX-212-Joe-Satriani-Combo-Amp?sku=481441

Its a very nice versatile amp. can do high gain and its got great cleans

or

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-6505-212-Combo-2x12-Guitar-Amp?sku=481433

for just high gain

Or go Ebay and get a used Mesa Triaxis or Recto head and cab. Can get it for about $1700

Then you will have a totally new sound and a powerful, good amp which can can help for gigs

I like the Joe amp idea.. Cause i think my amp i what sucks most.. I got a behringer V-tone pack..

But the most important thing to get a nice tone is the amp?

Distortion,
My squier affinity strat has a maple body. It's nice, really hard, punchy sharp sound gives it a nice tone and makes it even more 'strat', but it weighs more than my Les Paul. Hard to get a warm tone though.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

Kool cause ive never heard of one. well you learn something new every day.

And to Samoth2

Your amp is what gives you 80% of your tone so yeah. The JSX is a great Amp. Really versatile and got great tone. It can really do anything you want. and its TUBE so its loud, gig ready and great TUBE tone up in there. Just i read on HC that there are a bit of reliability issues.

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Peavey/JSX+Joe+Satriani+Signature+212+Combo/10/1

Check what they say. Then also with the $500 i recommend getting something with a MAHOGANY body and Two hums

Maybe this

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-RG2EX2-Electric-Guitar?sku=518872

Or this, its got a fixed bridge, Mahogany body, and two EMG designed humbuckers(which i recommend get proper EMG's or change them to a nice combo like JB and SH-2) its also a RG model so it looks metal.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-GAX70-Electric-Guitar?sku=519529

or if you want a Locking trem get this

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-RG3EXQM1-Quilted-Maple-Top-Electric-Guitar?sku=518873

Reliable trem, looks metal, mahogany. but you gonna have to save an extra $100 to get all of them.

They are all great guitars.

I really like the looks of the last one.. But then you recommend i change pickups with real EMGs? What about a guitar with EMGs from the start?

Btw thanks for the help

It doesn have to be EMG's. it can also be seymours or dimarzio.

The one you like, the S520EX is great and the pickups are not bad to keep for a while. until you save up and have cash to buy new pups.

Also One EMG 81 costs bout $125. and lets say you get a Seymour duncan SH-4 JB for the bridge and a SH-2 Jazz for the neck you will pay $140.

If youve heard EMG's and you really want them ill look for other guitar with them standard. But im not sure if there is any in your price range.

But I think then if you like the S520EX get it. Live with the pickups for a while and then blow $140 on that pickup combo. Then you will have a really sweet rig

Ibanez S520EX > Peavey JSX 212 Combo and all effect in between

Also the S body is thin, very thin, comfortable and the neck is king

This is also a good guitar. kinda like the SZ520QM.

its got a OFR, mahogany, maple top, EMG 81,85.

But its $800

Personally i think the ZR (ibanez) is a better trem. and i think it looks better.

other than that the schecter is better

800$ Is over my budget if I get the amp..

But i could save up 800$..

So either i wait some months before i buy a new guitar, with good pickups..

Or i buy the beautiful S520EX and then buy the seymour duncan pickups when i get the money..

I like the last one best, if its a good guitar exept for the pups..

Look (JUST AN EXAMPLE)

Ibanez + EMG's =$850
Schecter =$800

So then both guitars would be in the same price range with the same pickups,
then you yould base your choice on looks and playability.

So far you like the looks of the Ibanez so +1
Now you have got to go to a shop and try the two axe's to see how comfortable it is to play it.

if the ibanez is more comfortable get it.

And then the final step is to go to a shop

> Plug the Ibanez S520EX into the Peavey JSX and fiddle around. See if you like the finished product and then if you like it buy it.

Then you can save and buy pickups of your choice eg the Seymour duncans, or the EMG's

(you were gonna save for the pickups anyway but for metal i think EMG's will be better. I just recommended the SD cause you were on a tight budget)

plus the EMG's will look cooler with the covers.

So this is my final recommendation.

Ibanez S520EX with EMG 81 and 85 > Peavey JSX 212 Combo

Total Cost = $2350

Its $350 over your budget but im sure you can save up.

Then again, you dont need the pickups at that moment. you can wait fo them

But the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to try the gear out and if you dont like something, dont get it.

That should be a wise enough choice...put EMG 81/85 and you should sound very much like metallica as they use them.
Behringerv-tone(first guitar)
Epiphone les paul standard plus (cherry burst)
Flanger Pearl peddle
Marshall G15R CD
Dunlop 535Q wah

I like Epi LP's. You got a problem, PM me!
#13
YEs that will get you 5% of their tone.

Tone:
80% - Amplifier
10% - Guitar and type of PU's (single coil or hums)
10% - pickups eg emg seymour duncans etc.

Thats my opinion.

To get his sound you neeg his guitars, him, and these amps

Mesa Boogie Strategy 300 power amps
Mesa Boogie Mark IV amp
Mesa Boogie 4 x 12 speaker cabinets
Mesa Boogie Triaxis preamp
Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier solo head
Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier solo head (used in Lollapalloza 1996 tour)
Marshall JMP-1 preamp
Marshall 4 x 12 speaker cabinets w/ 25-watt speakers
Marshall 2 x 12 speaker cabinets
Marshall practice amps
Custom Audio Electronics preamp
ADA MP-1 preamp
Bradshaw preamp
VHT power amp
Matchless Spitfire
Vox AC-30
Fender tweed combos
Flextone
Ken Fisher Trainwreck

I just got this small problem.. I live in Denmark..
And the guitar shops around here got none of the gear listed..
But i was thinking about ordering for MF cause it's almost twice as cheap as here in Denmark..

So what to do about that problem?
