from the looks of it id say it was a G-310, the g-400's generally have covered humbuckers while the G-310 has open coils

Maybe he bought a fake SG...?

EDIT: Beacuse there isn't anything on Musician's Friend that looks like it. It looks like a G-310 and G-400 were combined...I dunno.

OK, I looked at Epi's website, and the absolute CLOSEST one is the Epi SG G-400 Deluxe. The only difference is the hums are covered. And the color.

http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=26&CollectionID=3

also if you look at the headstock and truss rod cover youll notice that the deluxe has a symbol, his does not, the truss rod cover of the deluxe says SG his doesnt

Damn...foiled again.

I'm slowly being leaned toward fake by the fact that no-one can find ONE SG that matches his.

This is a wild guess...but could it be a Gibson SG body with an Epi neck/headstock?? That might be possible.

yeah but the logical question would be, who would take a gibson body and put an epi neck and headstock on it

this is actually starting to bother me now

also looking at the neck it does match the G-310

THIS supports but doesn't prove my logic. Look at the pickups on here...

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-SG-Special-Swamp-Ash-Electric-Guitar?sku=518934

It just has the full pickguard instead of the half.

But its bothering me, too... How could only ONE SG look like that?

AND it has dot inlays, while most of the SGs I've seen have the trapezoid ones.

Is it possible to ADD a pickguard on?

Cause this has the same pickups, just in different colors.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Black-Sparkle-SG-Standard?sku=517643

So they would've had to change the neck/headstock and add a pickguard...but why??

EDIT:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-G310-SG-Electric-Guitar?sku=518280

THIS is EXACTLY the same, just with a full pickguard...is it possible to get a G-310 with a half pickguard?

well that explains the cream pickup switch lol, erm tbh im not convinced by the pickups as and open coil will pretty much look like any other open coil,

ive taken the pick guard off my les paul, and it would be possible to fill the holes and add a different picguard, but again i have to ask why would you take a guitar worth $1,500 and turn it into a guitar that would fetch about $200

and once again, that G-310 is missing the pickup rings lol

Unless, like I've already said lol, you can purchase an Epi SG G-310 with a half pickguard? That'd be the most logical explination. Cause everything except the pickguard is identical to a G-310.

EDIT: Gah, nothing works or makes sense!!! What kind of SG would be that diffferent?!?

And one other possibility:

Epi Custom Shop.

Here is the information from the serial number:

Samick Plant, Korea
March 1995
Production Number: 6267

So it is most likely a discontinued model, NOT the 310.

OK But anyways, these are the SGs discontinued from Gibson since 1995:

SG/Les Paul with the Gibson Lyre deluxe vibrola
SG Deluxe
SG Supreme Humbuckers Original Finishes
SG Supreme w/ P-90s
SG Classic
SG-Z Bass
SG Special Faded
SG Gothic
SG Voodoo

One of those maybe? Just in an Epi form?

EDIT: It looks most like the SG Special Faded...

EDIT 2: And BTW, your "www.guitardateproject.com" link doesn't work.

Oh, OK. I was gonna say a Les Paul Headstock would make no sence.

And my friend says: EIther

1) They took a cheap SG and added a pickguard...
2) or bought itand altered/took off the pickup covers.
