Not iron Maiden. Theyre too old. I'd say NOFX on Wolves in Wolves Clothing.

Just like I said (Tsunami Bomb), a lot of new punk has orgasmic tones. Newer Misfits, AFI, Wednesday 13's new album, Calabrese...

Listen to Take The Reigns by Tsunami Bomb and take that back.

Pantera (up to FBD) had a good tone, like a razor. And yeah Wednesday 13's was always good. Other noteables would be BLS (Hellride, Mafia, Hangover Music) and Slayers Reign in Blood,

Even though I'm almost entirely into punk... Dime's tone is amazing. I went through a bit of a metal phase 3 years ago or so, and that was one of the tones that stuck out most.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

Pantera had a really good bite to it, and Black Label Society has a really full tone, but can still pull of pinch harmonics.
Dickless.

I think maybe it's Pantera's tone that's influenced all these new punk bands' tones... they had a real bite!

Opeth, namely the Deliverance era recordings. PRS with Duncan Full Shreds through Triple Recto ftw. Plus the Laney they use for the cleans.. mmmm.. Plus Steve Wilson on Mastering/effects. Mmmmmmmmmm.

And before you jump on me and go "Opeth only uses Laney Amps!!!", You're wrong, they use all sorts of amps in studio. Namely Mesa Boogie Rectos and Peavey 5150's for their distortion sounds.

tim mahoney from 311 - great distortion and clean tone.
