So Ive been looking for an amp, about 30 watts around 200, and found this one. The stuff I play is mostly modern hard rock, like Chevelle, Muse, S.O.A.D. etc. Is this the right amp for the job? If not any other recommendations?

EDIT: Ive also found some more amps Ive been considering

it isnt the right amp, it has a thin digital tone. Try a roland cube.

bout to say what dez did, the cheap spiders sound terrible their highends arent bad, but ur looking in the two hundred, so i advise a roland cube much better quality.

Are the cubes 30 watts, or around 30?

just stick something in the hole and wiggle it around until you feel something poking out then push it hard.

I have a Roland 30 Cube and it's a pretty tight amp.

Better than a Spider IMO. Go get it, the 30 is loud enough in my room--Get the 60 if you're thinking of playing in gigs.

The Cube 30 is so far superior to the Spider 2 in every way possible... it's common sense to just NOT buy a Spider 2.

the Cube series are tons better than that Line 5 Peter Parker II er somethin......
Tone is all ...... well probably 75%, in your fingers.

Avoid the Spider. Bleh. Very thin, very digital tone. A Roland Cube would fit you much better.

Ok so I looked up the Roland Cube and it looks pretty sweet, does it get a lot of distortion?

vox valvetronix is also great for tht price, u could prob get a 50 watt one in ur price range, really good value for money, i prefer it to both

The Cube will be better for him for waht he plays. And yes the Cube has plenty of distortion.

And can someone tell me what a modelling amp is? Is it just another name for a certain amp or a different kind of amp?

What is so confusing about this statement? "The Cube 30 is so far superior to the Spider 2 in every way possible... it's common sense to just NOT buy a Spider 2."

It says that the Cube 30 is SUPERIOR to the Spider 2. It is BETTER than the Spider 2

It is common sense to just NOT, NOT NOT NOT NOT buy a Spider 2. Do not purchase a Spider 2.

It is the consensus of this thread that the Spider 2 is garbage and the Cube is a good choice, which I agreed with.

It's an amp that is designed to model the sounds of other amps... Like the Spider II has a knob for metal, crunch, clean, insane, etc. A normal amp will have a clean and usually 2 overdrive channels.
