does anybody have any tips for directing your writing style into specific genres?

some guys seem to be able to throw down riffs for any genre any time and others get really good at one genre...and others like me just get stuck in one they dont really want to play.

i'm personally aiming for a sort of garage rock, jack white, strokes, electric six kind of sound.

any specific advice for myself or general advice for everybody would certainly be helpful.

thanks

Try to find more of that type of music. Study it. Take your favorite band of that genre, and listen to one of their songs.
Dissect it, Analyse it. look at the songs structure, look at the tab of the song to get ideas. take one of their riffs, and adjust it to suit your song, make ityour own.

Theres prob more you can do, but thats all i can remembe for now.

Man, I would challenge their band to a duel, not a musical one though. I'm talking maces and swords and shit.
