I'm buying my first guitar (I want it to be an electric one and I'm not discussing that matter at all ) and I've been looking at different models and prices but I'm feeling quite dizzy. I want to play rock music (I specially love British rock, like Arctic Monkeys and Oasis). I'm not really into heavy metal or blues tho, so no humbucker coils, I guess. I was wondering if you have any suggestions for a decent but affordable guitar (remember i'm from Argentina tho, the dollar isn't the same price here). Help please!!

I'd go for the Epiphone Casino, They don't have humbuckers but those P-90's are pretty sweet and its rather afordable. It'd be a good indie british rock guitar, especially if you want to play oasis.

wait, i don't know if he knows about pickups, humbuckers are great for rock, as are P-90's as mentioned above, so are single coils(stratocaster style pickups), but i think humbuckers would suit you better, but whatever you want, humbuckers are the rectangle shaped ones with two coils like = single coils are well.....the single ones

i think a Squier and the Casino are great ideas... just hope you can find it though... i know squier Fat Strats have the Humbucker in the brigde n 2 singles in the neck, pretty versatile in my opinion,

but dear threadstarter, i would strongly advise against getting something with the intentions of only playing one style.. once you start playing you'll find yourself exploring new kinds of music...try and get something versatile... good luck with it tho.. peace!!

whats your price range... have you thought of a hollow body electric... its great for indie and or "brittish rock"... itll feedback like a bitch if you turn the gain up to ten though

Xtopher made a great point. You say that you'll only play one style, but you'll get sucked in sooner or later... we all have. I'm a metalhead to the core, specializing in death and thrash, but there's nothing on this earth quite like an SRV lick.

well everyone has good ideas on what you should get. my first guitar was an epiphone SG and i still use it today to practice. but im like aaron lewis, i bascially use my electric as an acoustic. (long story.....) anyway, but my Sg from epiphone was very affordable. its not a screaming death machine but it can get the job done with pretty much anything you wanna play. the only bad thing is, the epiphone sg sucks at low tunings. thats the only flaw, so if you want a good affordable first guitar, epiphone is a very good brand.

a squier strat is an excellent choice. Simple and effective.
Don't follow the trends. Do what feels right.

You could even go for a Mexican or Japanese Fender Strat. I'm not sure how much you'll be affected by import taxes. You'll only be paying an extra $50 or so USD to bump the Squier up to a Fender. It's worth it.

Thanks for the input everyone! It really helped.

Erm... I'm not quite sure I'm getting your point. Should I use humbuckers or not??

I'm not saying brit rock is the only style I want to play. However, it is my favourite style, so I guess I'd like something versatile, but adjustable to this kind of music.

first off you dont need to defend your choice to get an electric guitar (you ARE in the electric guitar forum, not much opposition here), and also id have to say that blues are normally played on single coil pickups. that being said ill try and recommend a guitar.
whats your budget? im going to assume about 600$ or less.

mexican strat. about 500 dollars. as far as playability is concerned they are much like an american strat but they dont sound as nice. in that price range probably going to be one of the better feeling guitars (most of your sound is in the amp anyways, and you can always upgrade the pickups) also the strat is probably one of the more versatile guitars around, except you wont see it in much metal music.

epiphone standard les paul, im not sure on the price but i think you could probably afford it.
the les paul is really heavily used in most newer bands, and can be pressed into almost every kind of music, maybe not so much for the blues

dontworry to much about people that say one guitar cant play a certain genre of music. it means to their experienced musician ears, the sound might not be quite as good as the RIGHT one. i use an ibanez rg560, a shred wizard with a floyd rose to play metal, blues, some jazz, cleans and a little shred. every guitar is as good as you make it

sorry for the long post
