ive read countless thread on tihs and everyone of them says tube is better, but it never says why, Greg Ginn (Black Flag's guitarist) prefers SS, he says they give a sharper tone and he is considered a great by many, and Dimebag used SS, so there's gotta be something to them if these greats used them, and i read many contradicting articles on the subject, but 1 said tube is "mid-range magic", and SS doesn't have much mids, so if thats true than why don't people who like scooped-mids use SS?

so if any1 knows the tone difference it would be greatly appreciated

If you can't find the answer yourself you aren't looking very hard.

SS amps (speaking generally):
lose clarity at high volumes
sound harsh at high volumes/gain levels
lack harmonics
tend to sound 'thin'
don't respond much/well to volume control/playing dynamics

Tube amps:
Have more harmonics, sound their best at loud volumes, have a fuller sound, respond fantastically to the player's touch and use of volume knobs, and are more 'punchy' overall.

So...there's more, but...yeah. Google it. use the search function. wade throught the 100-odd replies this thread is bound to get. Just accept that there is a reason (actually a lot of them) that 99% of guitarists, given the choice, will play a tube amp.

Umm...they have a lot of upper-range frequencies which are painful to the ear?

Why doesn't someone give explanations of the pros and cons of tube and ss instead of being a dick about it and saying TUBZ PWN for someone who is obviously considering buying a ss amp? seriously, grow up.

Sorry I wasn't reffering to you, Erock
