So to play a low D, he would be playing the 5th fret on the low A string? I can't hear him play notes any lower down than a low D, like the rest of the band...

Again, prove me wrong, I probably am
#162
Nah mate I wasn't trying to prove you wrong I've only heard like 2 or their songs I was just letting you know from a Bassist's perspective, a 5th Fret A String - D note, is perceived Deeper & 'Heavier', then a Open D
#163
I saw them last year. There was only a couple of hundred people their too which was cool. They are the tightest band I've ever seen!!

Yeah, I know what you mean, fair enough.

Wrong I am

they unfairly tend to fall into the category of metalcore. brilliant band

Um, how? The occasional breakdown?

Guess that means Suffocation are metalcore then.
#168
People don't realize that there is a difference between metal and metalcore breakdowns. n00bs, I tell ya.

^Yup D standard.

Another reason they sound heavier as a band is because the bassist has a 5 string down to A I believe.

Jesus, you would think they are a nu-metal band.... JUST KIDDING.

Thnx, I was looking at the tabs and they said d standard, but I didn't know if that was true.
#173
Yeah all the tabs I've seen (that are close to being right) say D Standard. I also think solos would completely go against the grain of the sound they've created...

I'd have to disagree, but their solos would definitely have to be unique to fit the sound they've created. A drum solo wouldn't be as hard to fit into a Gojira song, they're a lot more drum-oriented than other bands nowadays.

^Seconded. Although, I could picture them having acoustic solo breaks...
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

Ooh no... oh no no no, that's be awful IMO. The odd clean is fine, but leave the acoustic stuff to Opeth.

I havent got many songs by them, but the ones i have heard are immense, very good band. I heard they're even better live, so i really need to go see them.
#182
OK, double post time.

Just bought The Link Alive CD/DVD, which I'm chuffed about considering it's out of print and there aren't many of them out there.

It's ossum.

EDIT: The bonus videos are fooken hilarious.

my favorite song would definitely be, "Heaviest Matter In the Universe"
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.
#189
Ocean Planet, Backbone, and Global Warming would be my favorite songs.

I'll have a bourbon.

Is that something that turns you away from a band you have little chance of really getting to sit down with on a regular basis with?

i*[∂/∂t]*Ψt = -[∇^2]/2*(Ψt) (unitless form)

Almost as convenient as Wikipedia, but infinitely more hipster, Dover.

Probably the Link, actually... more wheat and less chaff than on FMTS.

Terra Incognita was a bit of a letdown for me. A lot of stuff just gets boring, even if Clone is an amazing song.

Does anyone know what kinda gear they use? I love their tone

Gojira took me a little bit to get used to, I listen to more faster-paced stuff. But now i really appreciate how they're kinda more laid back, but heavy as hell.

Good stuff.
Who dat?

My friend and I were listening to Backbone on the way to eat earlier. It's so fucking heavy!

One thing turns me off that song a bit: the bit with blast beats is way, WAY too similar to the blasting section in Death of Me. Only not as kick-ass.

Listen to it, you'll see.
