1) No, I'm straight.
2) I think the whole issue could easily be resolved if they could come up with a term that means the same as marriage, but between two members of the same sex. Homosexuals should be able to get something similar to marriage, but without using the term.
3) It's horrible, and disgusting. It's especially bad when it's teenagers that are gays or lesbians. EVERYONE around them treats them like shit, though I'd say that lesbians get the worst of it. Noone deserves to be treated that way..

I really hate how they bring religion into this in the way how they view their religions to be the only truth, only because the religion has been around for a long time, thus regardless of the fact that there's no real evidence for god, since the religion has been around since just about the dawn of man, it's safe to assume that Christianity is right about gay marriage. Gay marriages have persisted right from the beginning, and they will continue to do so, so why be ignorant and naive by restricting the rights of a smaller community to benefit your own life in some sort of way? It doesn't make sense to me.

Cuz it wuz funny, fool.

Anyways, stupid people will never agree with anyone that they are stupid, ESPECIALLY not to themselves. They are stupid because they don't realize they're stupid, that's why it's a dead end situation. It's going to take seeing god in front of their eyes to have their opinion changed. Having said that, ignorance has been around all throughout history. Don't expect it to go away just because.....*gasp* it's the 21st century and our society breeds contempt and tolerance!

It should be treated the same as normal marriage, I realy dont see why people have make such a big deal over it.

3) How do you feel about discrimation of gays?
I think its sad how our society treats them, and how the general public hates them. I think its pathetic when people "gay bash".

My school has posters all over the school to support our Gay Straight Alliance. I guess they're trying to promote tolerance, like a school should because it's all nice and fuzzy. The posters claim 1/10 people are gay, and they have random gay celebrities all over the school. It's very annoying. It's just yelling out for attention.

1) no.

2) i'm for it. in short, as long as divorce is legal in the US, gay marriage should be too. state marriage and church marriage are two different things. i'm a catholic and i think that a legitimate marriage in the eyes of god is one between a man and a woman. but i can't restrict two individuals from getting married by the state. to do otherwise would be a violation of rights. gay people, on a legal level, deserve the benefits of marriage in society. i'd hate to live with an atheist secular state that forced me to be godless (USSR), so i empathize.

3) i think it's pathetic. i don't understand why people get so up in arms about it. i think it's deeper than religion. problem some latent homosexuality in themselves or just a general fear of people who are different. it sucks. each side fuels the others fire though. people protest gays, gays come out with gay pride and never shut up about their sexual preference, in turn the anti-gays strike back with a vengeance, and so on.

1. Hetero
2. I believe they should have the right to get a bond, but keep the term marriage between man and woman
3. I don't discriminate. But it does annoy me when a gay person flaunts their homosexuality. Like Dorkus here, he keeps it to himself and I have no problem with him, but some other people here who I won't mention like to dance around shouting "IM GAY IM GAY IM GAY!" I really don't care, I don't go around telling people how straight I am, you don't need to announce your sexuality to the world.

Okay, I've crossed out what I had for my gay marriage answer in my original post.

I kept thinking about it, read a few books too. I totally think that gay marriage should be legal.

One, religion has no authority telling the state how to marry people. All the church does is provide a "blessing" for show, and there are many priests and churches who offer this blessing to gay couples.

Two, marriage has always been changing and growing. Before the civil war African Americans couldn't marry. Before 1967 (which is hard to believe) interracial couples couldn't marry nation wide. Divorce used to require permission of the pople, women used to be the property of men in marriages, etc.

Three, there is no constitutional basis on which to ban it.

Four, celebrating strong relationships only supports the very basis that marriage as we know it today is (or should be) founded upon. (some will say that gays are too promiscuous and it'll destroy relationship, but how can we expect homosexuals to practice long lasting relationships if the powerfully binding institution of marriage is unavailable to them?)

Five, the obvious equal rights crap, but that goes without saying.

1)Are you gay?
No.
2) Do you support Gay marriage?
No, because it conflicts with my morals.
3) How do you feel about discrimination towards gays?
I think it is horrible, people should never discriminate on people, only issues. It is really immature, people will call up my lesbian aunt at 3 in the morning and yell at her and call her a faggot, its really stupid. I wouldn't call it as extreme as what the black people went through. It is sort of like MxTabs coming over here and spamming.

1) Are you gay?
No.
2) Your stance on gay marriage?
Don't support it and don't oppose it. I don't care who other people marry, because it's none of my business. Though, as much as I dislike the Catholic church, I think that they have the right to decide who they want to marry in their churches.
3) How do you feel about discrimation of gays?
Indifferent. People have the right to dislike whatever they want to dislike and vocalize it. However, one thing I find pretty stupid is the immediate labeling of someone who doesn't approve of homosexuality as a "homophobe" - a completely wrong term. Even worse is the immediate judgment of a "homophobe" as a closet homosexual or something along those lines. I generally think that freedom of speech is more important than people's feelings.

You might not morally agree with homosexuality and gay marriage, but yada yada yada. You see where I'm going with this?

What bugs me is the people that use their sexuality as a form of attention... The ones that have to include "Im gay" in every sentence they speak.. You're gay.. big deal.. I'm heterosexual and I don't go around in life or on the internet proclaiming it to the world as if it was the craziest thing that ever happened and deserves everyones attention... If you need to use your sexuality as a form of attention then..well.. so much for believing in equal rights and status..

This is why I'm upset that this thread came back. Pretty much all the gay threads I've made are all products of me needing a faggoty rainbow outlet in which to exude queerness.

I really don't act all that gay in real life, which is why I do it more on UG (even though I try to limit that).

Oh, we were on different subjects. I thought you meant that you were against the right of a gay couple to obtain a legal marriage (or civil union, whatever you want to call it). If you're against religious gay marriage, okay. That's the church's business.

1) Are you gay?

No.

2) Your stance on gay marriage?

I have no problem with it. I have SOME issue with gay people having children, for the sake of the child. I'm sure that they can get just as much love and support from gay parents as straight, but the discrimination the child grows up with is what makes me undecided.

3) How do you feel about discrimation of gays?

I think everyone enjoys a laugh at gay expense, and I know I have done, but its all in jest. If I was gay, I wouldn't take massive offence to small jokes etc [although I'm sure it gets tiring] but there is no need for hatred or real offensiveness.

I think it's just like any other thing, you have to be able to take a joke. I wear glasses, but I wouldn't go off my swede if someone said "Four Eyes" (mainly because its the most pathetic insult ever lol, but nevermind) and I wouldn't go mad if someone called me a bender one time, if I was gay.

But real hatred of gays offends me too.

The thing that ticks me off is like you said, when gay people feel the need to base everything in their life around the fact that they are gay. I'm not saying this applies to everyone, but when it does happen I find it extremely annoying.

I pretty much agree with everything this guy said, apart from the marriage dealio. I'm not biased against homosexuals in any way, but marriage is essentially the union of a man and woman. Now, if there was someway to make a compromise here (I keep getting flashbacks to that South Park episode), I'd be all for it.

2) Your stance on gay marriage?
I think it's a good thing. It doesn't affect the people it's not concerned with.
3) How do you feel about discrimation of gays?
I think that it's ****ing ridiculous, but it really just boils down to fear of the unknown. Gay culture kind of alienates everyone else from the pack. I've found that people who know somebody for a good while before they find out they are gay often dont really give as much of a shit. If you dont become immersed in the "I have to be as flamboyant as possible" mentality, then it's easier to make people understand you as a person.

I've seen several examples in this thread where UGers do not think gay marriage should be allowed due to moral conflict, and also where the same UGer believes that discrimination against gays is completely wrong.

Is it just me, or is believing that gay marriage should never be legal a form of discrimination? I'm of the school of thought where discrimination equals prejudice (ordisagreement) plus power. If these same people had the power to stop gay marriage, would they? I don't see a reason why they wouldn't. They outright said it conflicts with their morals. Yet, at the same time, these UGers claimed to believe that discrimination was wrong. Don't get me wrong, everyone is a hypocrite about something, but I think this is a good example of the kind of hypocrisy that is crippling social progress and acceptance around the world.
