I looked at the "Most replayable metal CDs thread" And I noticed that Wintersuns self titled album popped up a few times. Can someone tell me what bands Wintersun is similar to, and thoughts on the album?

Thankyou very muchly

^Sounds like Ensiferum only a little less folky. It's great. Get it.

I'm trying to get into some brutal death metal... recs?
I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

cryptopsy - none so vile is probably the quintessential brutal death album. get it.

alright I'll check it out

I'll rearrange my question: I'm looking for some catchy and melodic brutal death metal, not too interrested on brutal tech death

Kronos - Colossal Titan Strife fits the bill perfectly, as does the aforementioned None So Vile from Cryptopsy.

I know this is late, but awesome job unfathomable - that was actually really fast.

Also, I asked this in the last reccomendation thread, but I'm looking for anything new now. Mostly black metal, or blackened death. If you want to know what I already listen to, then look at my last.fm profile here: www.last.fm/user/enemyofthestate

Thanks.

i'd highly recommend negura bunget, payage d'hiver (especially the dark ambient albums), sterbend, alcest, amesoeurs, peste noire, lunar aurora and raison d'etre (more dark ambient). pm me if you want some links.

Same, need some bands like Mors Principium Est

Closest I can think of is Dark Tranquillity.

Hey bo, i think this should be added onto the Folk metal section:

Mithotyn - King of the Distant Forest

Also i'm looking for music like Nazgul, with mutible keyboard melodies that actually sound like music, not the moonsorrow/turisas stuff that you can tell is just one keyboard. I want stuff with lots of keyboard melodies happening at one time... and sounds more folky.

thanks.
I was here for a while.

I was about to suggest Nokturnal Mortum's Goat Horns to fit the keyboard aspect of your request, but then you mentioned you wanted something with a folk sound
#182
Dark Tranquility isn't really what im looking for, must be somthing similar?

Thanks =]

? i have in mind:
Nocternity (Grc)
Lunar Aurora
Negura Bunget - Maiastru Sfetnic

or

Morgart
Seth - Les Blessures de l'Ame
Dimmu Borgir - For All Tid

or

Obtained Enslavement - Witchcraft
Ringnevond - Nattverd
Nokturnal Mortum - Goat Horns

nm does have a folk sound; are quite gay and juvenile as well

Obtained Enslavement - Witchcraft

Yes!

Absolutely drenched in synthetics, so much that sometimes it is no longer apparent there is a guitar, and cheesy yet memorable melodies. I second this recommendation.

^whaoh.... thanks guys, a lot.

anyone else agree that mithotyn should be added to folk recommendation?

Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, and Horrorshow are my personal favourites. A lot of people seem to enjoy Something Wicked This Way Comes, but I didn't enjoy it too much. Their self-titled album is pretty good too. You really can't go wrong with any of those.
#195
^SWTWC was my favorite. All of them are great though.

well i think theyre all great, but from what i like the most to least:
necrospective
negative prevails
bedtime for mercy
livid corruption

edit: although something like the newer yyrkoon might have been more akin to what you were asking for. either way, natron > yyrkoon

^what Mike said plus -
Black Sabbath (duh)
Witchcraft
Solitude Aeturnus
Reverend Bizarre
The Gates of Slumber
The Obsessed
Burning Saviours
Pagan Altar
While Heaven Wept

Sabbath should be piss easy to find, and the rest should be easy enough with a bit of digging via labels/ebay/whatever.
