this band rocks, the guitarist J is very good. I heard they're gonna be getting back together soon and even recording an album. I can't wait! What do you guys think about em?

I think they are back together? I'm pretty sure they've played some shows lately, unfortunately I wasn't able to go to any.

how can you say that dino jr is basicly j mascis? lou barlow was a really big part of it too, and that other guy as well, but not as much as j and lou.

a band is never just a guy.

Dino Jr. was definitely not "just J Mascis", that's a moronic statement. It may have gotten that way during the waning of band, after J was the only original member, but definitely not the first three albums. He may be the first thing you think of when you think of Dinosaur Jr. but Lou shared a fair ammount of the songwriting duties and he and Murph had their own impact on the band's sound.

One of my favorite bands ever. I have all their albums and am looking forward to hearing the new one.

Saw them live about 4 months ago. Bloody amazing. You're Living all over me is one of the best albums of the 80s, and definately one of the crown jewels of the grunge/alternative era.

Indeed. J is like Samson, in that his hair gives him the power to rock face.

My girlfriend gave me a burned Dinosaur Jr. CD to listen to and I didn't. And then when she saw me tonight she mentioned what a good band they were and I had to pretend I agreed but I really had no clue and I felt bad for lying to her -- even though it was a lie of omission because all I did was smile and nod I still felt bad.

Should I actually listen to it?

I don't know. She just wrote "Dinosaur Jr." on it. I threw it on a pile of junk, I'll have to find it. I'll be sure to report back here because I know everyone is now invested in this saga. (Sarcasm. But I will anyway if I remember!)

In case anyone's interested, Dino Jr has some BRAND NEW EPIC SONGS on their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/dinosaurjr
Almost ready is pretty good, but Been There All The Time is excellent songwriting and has literally some of the best guitar work I've heard. Seriously, J's playing was great in the 80's but he's gotten a whole lot smoother and more melodic. I kinda miss the noise freakouts, but it's pretty fantastic anyway.

Awesome. The new songs sound really good. I find it a bit odd they're putting out the new album on Fat Possum, though.

Apparently there is going to be a limited edition Dinosaur Jr skate shoe from Nike.

what da hell? That's cool and all.. but nike? no skating roots at all.

If anyone here is into skate movies you should check out the new toy machine one, Suffer the joy. Awesome soundtrack (sonic youth, dinosaur jr, devendra banhart..)

I dunno about the new songs on myspace. Not horrible, but not amazing. J is soloing his brains out though, haha. On the other hand, "Back to Your Heart", a song by Lou, is sounding pretty good. It's much more interesting. Hoping for the best though, reunited Dino has so much potential.

I've just downoaded it and from what I can tell so far is that it sounds a lot like J's solo stuff. I mean it is good, but don't go expecting another song like Little Fury Things.

I've been into them for a while now. YLAOM definitely has the best feel, but Where You Been seems to have better songs on it for me.

The self titled is a steaming pile of shit.

J Mascis is my second favorite guitarist, even if he looks like a pedophile nowadays.

dino j is basically just J.

I disagree.
****ing great band though,
J is very good, and underrated.
My favorite album would have to be Without a Sound,
With Green Mind as a close second.
