OMG no Cure thread?

The Cure is a ROCK band from England. Ive been a fan since im was like 12. Every album has a diferent a refreshing sound. Robert Smith's vocals and lyrics have influenced tons. Porl Thompson's guitar riffs are juts delightful, Boris William's ( now Jason Cooper) drums were very simple yet technical. Simon's bass lines just brings the music together. If you've never heard of The Cure i'd recommend you to try them, try songs like : Just Like Heaven, A Forest, Lovesong. They've been around for some time now (lets say 1979) They have 12 studio albums and 34 singles. The Cure is sometimes classified as goth (wich is wrong) they may dress goth but their music isnt (except for Pornography).

Well lets talk about The Cure.

Who else is a big fan?

I have their Greatest Hits and I just bought Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me recently. Pretty good music, for the most part.

I really enjoy listening to The Cure, I only have the greatest hits, but I intend to expand my collection very soon...

Yeah the Cure are pretty much the best.

Close to Me is easily one of the greatest songs of all time.

Mixed Cure playlists are great!!! Fantastic pop songs like Boys Don't Cry, In Between Days, Letter to Elise etc mixed in with their more adventurous and artistic material like Lullaby, Love Song and A Forest.

Can often turn out better than the albums (but thats somewhat a given).

Yeah, great, great band.

^Nope. Like when you take your favourites off of each and make a playlist, and stick it on a CD/Tape/mp3 player/whatever.

Because The Cure covered many different styles, those sort of playlists are always great.

Technically there more of an Alternative/Goth/Pop/Rock band

I have Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Greatest Hits atm but my friend has a lot more.

There roots however are in more Goth-y stuff.

Enjoy your worries, you may never have them again.

They're good but overrated IMO. I only have Boys Don't Cry and Pornography though.
According to BS statistics, 92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you're among the 8% who doesn't consider rap to be real music, donate your brains, as you clearly aren't using them.

^ big fan I see. My cousin introduced me to them, she's a pretty big fanatic, she gave her friend Wish for her birthday. Disintegration=

I love em a lot too, I originally decided to ask my cousin about them since Blink mentioned them in the self titled album as an influence, I miss you is Love cats based and All of this actually has robert in it.

Did anyone see when Robert was on South Park?

You mean the one where he killed Barbra Streisand

God, that episode was awesome.

Especially when Kyle yells, "Disintegration is the best album EVER!!" as Robert is walking away in the sunlight.

IMO the other pioneering Goth bands (Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division) are far better than the Cure, and far more deserving of the Cure's popularity.

Siouxsie and the Banshees, who had Robert Smith in their line up for years.
Joy Division supported the Cure around 1979.

The Cure are the best because they can change and adapt, if Joy Division were still together and Ian Curtis hadn't committed suicide however, things could have been different.

Listen to a Bauhaus or Banshees record and tell me they couldn't adapt.

And yes, I know Bob was a Banshees for a while (he stole his trademark look form Siouxsie) and I wouldn't be surprised if JD supported the Cure. But.... are those facts relevant?

^Haven't they recently rereleased some of their albums with extra songs? Because when I was at best buy looking at pornography they had the original which said released 1982 or so and then they had a different version that was like 10 bucks more but more than twice as many songs, I think there was something about it here on UG.

I only know of If Only Tonight We Could Sleep because the Deftones covered it, and I really liked that dark, atmospheric style.

Can someone recommend me some of their darker songs?

Man, Pornography and Faith are two of the darkest albums ever.

I sort of prefer that side of them to their Love Cats-y pop side.

Boys don't cry is such a nice song, but they're darker songs own, Caustic is right. On two occasions I've started talking to someone about the cure and then when we had gotten onto the subject of boy's don't cry we just suddenly burst into singing it lol.

I have about 8 or so albums at home... Maybe a tad overrated, but most people can only quote Lovecats,.. out of 15 or however many albums they put out

The Head on The Door and Wild Mood Swings are pretty good albums if you want to look into some more Cure,.. also Wish and Disintegration
