I just got Disintegration, it's fantastic. I dunno what to get next, which albums have a similar kind of sound?

I would say Pornography is somewhat like Disintegration, but keep in mind that it was made in the earlier eighties, and it has more atmospheric synth, and a lot more anger. I prefer Pornography to Disintegration though.

I don't own Bloodflowers, but I have heard some of the songs from that one from the Cure 2005 DVD, and I have heard that it is a lot like Disintegration. The Cure released the Trilogy DVD, and that was suppsed to represent the "Dark Trilogy" of Pornography, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers, so I guess you could give that one a try, but I highly reccomend picking up Pornography. My username is based on the track from it called "The Figurehead". It is epicly Cure, and an album you must listen to before you die.

Faith, Pornography and Bloodflowers are all good albums with sounds similar to Disintegration (with Pornograpy being more bleak and agry instead of the melancholy on Disintegration).

Does anyone here know if the Join the Dots compilation is worth buying? I saw it in a local store the other day but I don't know whether those rare tracks are really worth it.

yeah its a fun listen. interesting. . . . it really all depends on how much of a cure fan you are. if u love them, like me, then you love join the dots. hearing their songs in there earlier stages and songs u'd never heard before is quite refreshing.

Ok, I'll get pornography, thanks guys

Good choice! Pornography really is an epic Cure album. Just listening to the first 30 seconds of the first track, One Hundred Years, you already get a taste of what is to come. I never get tired of that album, and I could listen to it over and over again. It is definitely a good buy.

Has anyone noticed the similarities between the songs "The Last Day of Summer" and "Where the Birds Always Sing" from Bloodflowers? Parts of the songs are taken directly out of one another...

I may be resurrecting an ancient thread, but I cant help it. I love The Cure. They're awesome. I've only got their expanded greatest hits (its got an acoustic cd in it, as well as all the videos to the songs on the main CD).

I love all the songs on there, but my favourite has to be 'Why Can't I Be You', which is so awesome its become my text ringtone.

I've listened to most of Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me on Spotify and I think its great as well as listening to lots of others. I watched their concert at Madison Square Gardens on Youtube too and that was awesome, that song from the new album 'Underneath The Stars' was amazing.

So yeah, short story is I really love The Cure!

Pornography, Disintegration, and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me are my top three... I also have an undeniable soft spot for Boys Don't Cry.

I shall bump this with the news that after listening to Disintegration on repeat for the last few weeks, I have deemed The Cure my favourite band, edging out the Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins.

Was very pleased when Robert showed up on Crystal Castle's cover of Not in Love.
But classic Cure is the best.

4:13 dream? I have it and it's good, if a little inconsistent at times. underneath the stars is fantastic along with 2 or 3 other homeruns and some good moments through the rest.

The Cure are so awesome. Though I did not like the last album at all. 4:13 Dream. Very bland. They need Roger O'Donnell back in the band. I have the Siouxsie and the Banshees dvd Nocturne with Robert Smith on guitar. Very very cool!

It's all about Seventeen Seconds.

I've only got the first four albums (or rather Boys Don't Cry & the next three albums), and frankly Seventeen Seconds is my least favorite. In fact I took forever before finally listening to Faith (which I dug, btw), because I was so unimpressed with Seventeen Seconds.

That said, nothing I've heard by The Cure has ever left me all that impressed. I mean, to me, it's solid, but it's not great. I always felt like The Cure are a band that I should love, but I don't. But I do like them, and I will buy more of their albums eventually at some point in this lifetime.

So do the band. The trilogy DVD has them playing Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers in full, and there's interviews and stuff on the disk where they talk about how the 3 albums felt like they were linked in terms of the feel of the music and the style of the music. I can't remember the tracks, but there's a track on each of the 3 albums, and I'm sure they all share a motif, or at least a variation or similar motif.
