I saw this live thing of them yesterday, it was them playing fascination street. It was played absolutely perfectly and their guitars' tone was different but very sexy.

They're working on a new album aren't they?

When does that come out??

The world needs a new Cure album....

Obviously not...

Is it that bad?

Well, who's to say a new one would be worse?

I don't see why people bag the self-titled. It's not as great as their other material, but god, it's not THAT bad. People expect it to be a masterpiece, and get disappointed when it's just a decent album

Exactly.

Even when bands release decent albums when they're way past their prime those decent albums tend to be better than most of the horseshit that gets played on the radio.

Eh, I thought it was pretty awful. I mean I sort of liked Bloodflowers, but this one was just bad.

I like bloodflowers and the cure was OK. Now that Porl is back they have a decent line-up, except for that jason dude. I hope robert sings like he did back in the old days not the style he used in bloodflowers and the cure...

i really liked bloodflowers actually, its probably my third favorite cure album, behind disintegration and a head in the door

but i agree that the self titled was meh. i think it had some really good stuff on it, but that didnt make up for the total of the album, i would love it if they came out with a new album, its one of my life goals to see a cure concert.
#53
A FOREST!

*sigh* Okay, I'll give them another try.

The cure is amazing.

Best records are Disintegration, Bloodflowers, Pornography. Which all 3 albums compose the trilogy dvd.
#56
I remember reading on this very site they started work on a new album, it was the same news thing where they said they'd rerelease their b sides into disc format. It also had the sales for the self titled, it didn't even go gold which surprised me.
#57
^Well to go gold you really have to be played on the radio.

besides, not many young kids know who the Cure is. Way too many are into top 40 and House shit. Honestly, the nearest genuine Cure fan that I know and who has actually met Robert, she's 42. The rest can only quote Lovecats ffs. Half of the people that actually do like and remember the Cure are too elitist to actually just enjoy the damn album. Hence it's not even Gold.

here`s one example. i`m sixteen and i absolutely worship the group and their music.
i never had a chance to see them alive because i live in a shitty country in europe (croatia)
where are only a few people who like the cure.there are even no tributes to the cure
or places where u can listen to them. that`s ****ed up,isn`t it?

p.s.what is a true fan? why do you have to be labeled as a CURE FAN?

#60
^You have to really love the band, know how to appreciate them. Fake fans only pretend to like the band because it's cool.

btw why hasn`t anyone mentioned their first album?
is it because it`s not goth/alternative/poprock?
yea,it`s a punk album-their roots are totally different from
what they`ve developed later. you should listen to the THREE IMAGINARY BOYS
to improve your..vision about the cure and robert smith.

fire in cairo

I love Three Imaginary Boys, and I wouldn't really call it punk. Post-punk, yes.

It really is great. I need to dig it up sometime.

true fan in my books is someone who genuinely appreciates the band's music, and has heard at least one album worth of material. With The Cure of course that may be stretched a little because they have so many albums, but still.

I was just saying that the new generations don't often dig up music from that period, and the original fans moved on, or don't like the new stuff because the old stuff is "the classics", hence the self-titled wasn't as popular

EDIT:

and .smudged., how come The Top was infamous?

they aren`t that popular comparing to my chemical romance or
other worthless bands still living on this planet.

maybe it`s because they`re not steady. for me,steady means limited.
limited often means stupid.some bands who keep on doin stuff the same way
they`ve been doin it for years-like iron maiden or guns n roses have a great popularity just because they have a well known, appreciated style.
the cure has always been an experiment.that`s what i like.
they`re completely natural and able to change themselves which is a good thing.

the top is one of my fav albums and don`t know why do u think it`s not famous?
#68
Okay, I haven't heard that much of the Cure, but they never struck me as being experimental, especially when compared to Bauhaus and the Banshees.

maybe it`s just my experience.ask other `cure fans`.
i have only one siouxsie album and i like only one song-cities in dust.
i consider her not being experimental,i mean, not able to change her style to sth new.
it`s just my opinion.people have opinions.
sooo..
it`s maybe unappropriate to discuss a band which some people like while others don`t.

close the cure thread! (says the cure obsessed teenage)

Whoa whoa.

Sorry to take this off-topic, but Siouxsie changed her style more than Bob Smith could ever dream of.

Love in a Void 1979, punk. With Bob on guitar

Hong Kong Gardenbasically punk-pop (NOT POP-PUNK) Gotta love that little plink-plonk melody at the beginning.

Happy House pretty straight-up Goth. Harmonica and extra percussion make this track unique.

Israel gloomy, and brooding. The choir is great.

Kiss Them For Me basically this entire record was made on the computer. This is very dancey and exotic-sounding.

Peek-A-Boo
You can hear a definite hiphop influence in this. This track was inspired by Siouxsie reversing her songs on tape players. There's also a great little hook there played by something that sounds like an accordeon.

CandymanBack to more guitars, this time around they acquired a "shiny" guitar sound inspired by 60s pop. This song (and album) feels more mature IMO, not as insane and manic as their early stuff. Not that insane and manic is a bad thing, of course.

BTW, Bob Smith stole his trademark look from Siouxsie.

Now I'm sorry I hijacked this thread, but as a Banshee fanatic I felt it needed to be said.

well, you`re a fanatic-i understand you.
i was like that when i first started listening to the cure.
i`ve heard all these siouxsie songs and they`re great.
i said everything in a wrong way-i just wanted to say that every band continues
to do things the same, even if it`s experimental-it`s a style and they can`t change it.

and actually,i don`t like robert`s makeup.he looks like a fat lady (nowadays).
i`m not interested in their lives or anything, they`re just earning money
like everyone does.
i just find something more refreshing in their music than in other bands.
great example-sisters of mercy--went to their concert last year--
every single person was dressed in black.why???
they`re not ****ing goth.
#72
LOL I have to disagree with you, I do think the Sisters are Goth, no matter how hard Eldritch denies it

EDIT: even more off-topic, but I love Cowboy Bebop.

Its Robert Smith not Bob.

And I called The Top infamous because its kinda their weirdest album and people say its their worst. Despite that I think The Top is one of their top 5 albums, because of it has some psychedelic influence and Robert was like ON drugs when he wrote that..

Edit: Why goth bands always deny their goth? i.e. Bauhaus...
#74
Bob is an abbreviation of Robert; one of his nicknames is Mad Bob. Therefore I will call him Bob to relieve the monotony of constantly saying Bob

I think the early Goth bands deny their Gothness because a) their music was only Goth during a certain period b) they cannot identify with the current Goth subculture.

I guess the same reason why nu-metal bands deny they're nu metal.
