The Head on The Door or Disintegration.

I recently bought A Head on the Door and the only really good songs are the singles. Their are a couple of other decent ones, but if I don't like it after a few more listens I might sell it and just buy Staring at the Sea.

Well if you're just a casual listener you might not appreciate it...And yeah, Staring at the Sea is a good alternative...

Wait, what about Seventeen Seconds?

I'd say go with Smudged's recs first, especially if you haven't heard much other Cure stuff. It's a little bit different from everything else that I've heard from them (though of course someone will probably end up telling me that I"m an idiot with no music knowledge etc etc). Like, it's a great album (yes, it has A Forest on it), but the other recs are probably better in the meantime

I already have Pornography.

Yeah, perhaps the Trilogy is the best idea.

Though isn't Disintegration and not Seventeen Seconds part of the Trilogy?

Disintegration is part of a different trilogy, with Blooflowers and another one that's slipped my mind.

Disintegration is one of a kind...

I'd say the trilogy is Seventeen Seconds,Faith and Pornography.

And Bloodflowers is like a darker-mood(ish) Wild Mood Swings, but thats just me.

Nothing beats "Just Like Heaven". Actually I am completely torn over which I think is better. Dinosaur Jr.'s "J.L.H." Vs. The Cure's. Dinosaur Jr.'s "Just Like Heaven" is my choice for best cover ever. So fricking good.

Lol. I love The Cure to death. I own every album availible, but have yet to figure out which one is my favorite. They're all amazing. I love the unreleased Pornography instruments, but I'd say its a tie between the head on the door and Disintegration. I really dont know.
I'm back, you douchebags.

yea, when you really love them it`s hard to point one album or a song.
i was thinking about playing the cure, for there are no tributes to the cure in my
country..but who would listen to that?
plus,i need a bass,a guitar and a drummer.yeey.optimistic

i live in the woods.here everything is made of wood.
i have a nice wooden computer carved in Biedermeier style.
even my family is made of wood so i have to polish them every
few hours.
nevermind. actually you could send the guitar material so i can sing on that.
#95
lmao, so I assume you're made of wood as well?

if we lived in pre-Christian times and the computers existed, you would certainly be either worshipped or persecuted.

Either way, sounds like a great idea. I'm looking for some way to record atm, once that's settled I can send you some guitar tracks and some wood polish for your family

Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from?

I didn't say I liked the Dinosaur Jr. version better. I said I was torn over which one I liked better. Go look again. Also note I never edited it. It has always said just what I posted. Please read my posts before telling me where I am allowed to post. Also liking ONE version of a song better doesn't mean I don't like The Cure.

Bloodflowers is epic. I just need to be in the mood.

AFI's Just Like Heaven is pretty good. Not as good as the original though. It never is.

Obviously The Cure are great. That's sort of a given. For the most part I think I prefer the darker songs (Disintegration, Pornography et. al.) to the upbeat ones, but that opinion fluctuates.

For the record... The Top was the much more upbeat, poppier, somewhat psychotic followup album to Pornography, which was one of their darkest albums, even to today. Robert Smith wrote all the songs himself, and played almost all instruments, except the drums and the saxophone. Robert Smith has since disowned the album, and has said that it is The Cure's worst album. I haven't heard all of it, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by this whole story.

mmm maybe a suggestion to zappp in order? lol.

My grandparents used to work in Croatia ages ago

mm anyways, on topic. MM that was an interesting post, I didn't know Robert disowned that album. I guess there could have been something personal on there that he needed to get out and doesn't really want to surface anymore. I guess from what I heard on this thread, opinions on the music of that album vary too, so that's probably all it was.

I'm a fan! I grew up listening to them since I was a baby... now I'm learning their songs on bass and guitar! woot!

They are definitely classic.
#108
There is a rumor that they might be coming to Bulgaria, hopefully they will.

I don't know why most of you dislike S/T I thought it was pretty solid, although it did lack some distinctive song to set it apart.

Favorite song from the Cure for me personally would be "Close to Me". I love most of their stuff except some of teh way too positive songs which get on my nerve. Anyhow great band.

I quite enjoyed the cover from Deftones actually(even have it on my comp) it did the original justice(Chino's to blame) also Chimaira have a wicked cover of "Fasination Street".

Anyhow compared to DM, the Cure arent overrated at all.

kewl,.. it would be great if they visited Australia as well.

Good to see someone else appreciate the S/T album. I haven't heard the covers that you mentioned though

Well it figures since one is a B side, while the other was uploaded from MTV.

Anyhow when is the new album expected to be released?

I've loved The Cure for a long time. Disintegration is easily my favorite album but then again I'm a sucker for love songs. I've really grown the appreciate the guitar work on their records though. It may not be the most complicated riffs but they're extremely unique. Creating a Cure-esque guitar riff is NOT easy. Also am I the only one who thinks that Robert Smith seems like the kinda guy that woulda killed himself? I dunno I just think he fits the stereotype of the celebrity that kills themself...but anyway I'm glad he didn't. Also I like TBS's Just Like Heaven as far as covers go although it's of course not as good as the original.
#114
What are some of the Cure's darker songs? I've heard "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep," and I love it (as well as the Deftones cover), but I find all the other stuff is too poppy for my liking.

So yeah, what are some songs that are in the vein of IOTWCS?

a lot of `dark` songs (albums:pornography,seventeen sconds,faith,the top)
some of them:
empty world
wailing wall
three imaginary boys
the figurehead
at night
seventeen seconds
the drowning man
other voices
primary
faith and so on...

I've only heard Boys Don't Cry. I liked it.
