On the new album, they started using sweeps. It's quite noticeable on "Anthem : We Are The Fire". They also use a lot of tremolo picking and alternate picking, usually 3 notes-per-string runs.

On the older stuff, they use a lot of "cascade" licks. Example:

E|-13-12-10---12-10-------10----------------------------|
B|----------13------13-12----13-12-10-13-12-10----------|
G|---------------------------------------------12-------|
D|------------------------------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------------------|
D|------------------------------------------------------|

Basically a scale rundown (I think ) that can be used all over the neck.

Hope it helps.

^ ya, thats pretty much it.. they just pick a scale, and move around in a pattern...

Like they'll go up 5 notes come down 3, go up 5 down 3 etc... you can do the same, Most players start out going up by 4's, on every scale degree, which is kinda what the guy above me showed, only descending... but as you sit down with other players, you realize that its kinda boring, so you can make up your own.
