Since this amp doesn't have a standby switch, is there "best" way to turn it on so the tubes don't wear out prematurely? Would just turning the volume(s) down for a minute help?
#2
Turn it on, turn your guitar volume to 0 for about a minute then turn it up and play, that's how I do it.

^R_H_C_P is generally always right, do as above to conserve the valves a bit.

Turn the amp on, but leave it a minute before you play...it also won't hurt to play for 5 minutes or so at low volume before you whack it up.

Either that or just whisper "Hey, Blues Jr....how YOU doin'?"

It was there all along....anyway, I'm the one posting drunk!

I don't whisper to my Ashdown...I shout at it "If you DARE blow a fuse you temperamental piece of junk...." - usually does the trick. Either that, or threaten to play the Peavey Bandit instead...that always gets it riled

I usually stroke my amp a couple times to get the tubes warmed up.

^ Yep, you just have to know where to touch it.

But yeah, any tube amp without a standby switch still need to warm up. Just turn it on with the volume off, tune up, plug in, warm up your fingers and you should be ready to go.

Is this just turning into a thread of personification and puns..?

No, we're just giving him ideas on how to make sure his amp is turned on.

As long as you don't have a solid state rectifier, you can start playing as soon as you start hearing anything. The rectifier won't give any current (or get enough current itself) to the other tubes until all the tubes are properly warmed up.

The Blues Junior has a SS rectifier though, if I'm not mistaken.
