All I ever play is rock, sometimes acoustic stuff and occasionally metal.

I want to open my mind to some great jazz peices.

What are some good jazz guitarists and peices to start me off?

Thanks.

Listen to a band called 'Patto'; Ollie Halsall is a jazz/rock style guitarist, and he's phenomenal.

Also, listen to anything by Django Reinhardt and Allan Holdsworth. Both really great jazz guitarists.

Incidentally, this would be probably do better in the Blues & Jazz forum.

Take Five is great..

But if you really wanna play Jazz you gotta listen to it first.

Django Reinhardt is some great jazz guitar...

Also Brubeck, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Elington etc.

most jazz is for piano or brass, but you can play pretty much all of them on guitar as well

Get a Real Book, there's hundreds of great jazz tunes to learn from there.
Also check out Herbie Hancock, kinda a funky jazz if you're into that.
Take the "A" Train is a great tune as well as Take Five which someone mentioned earlier.
Also a lot of Charlie Brown songs are have a very jazzy sound.

Any bands you're trying to copy/sound like?

Try some Django Reinhardt, Shawn Lane, Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan for starters. And the Oscar Peterson Trio is a great listen.

Go to the Blues/Jazz forum under bands and artists i think it is. There you will find everything you need. And most of your questions are likely stickied there.
