alright so i have some money saved up and i was thinking of getting new pickups.

the things i play are mostly metallica and slipknot and other metal stuff like that.

due to that one would assume i should get some EMG's as both those bands use that.

so OTHER THAN EMG's what are some other options.

i was looking a dimarzio super distortion and i heard they were pretty good (theyre pretty cheap too)

i will not go over $200

and i want to have decent cleans as well ( the emg 60 would be for that i guess)

also what does f-spaced mean?

F-spaced is Fender spaced. Basically for guitars with tremolos as opposed to tune-o-matic bridges like on Gibsons. I think.

I suggest DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge position. If not, then Duncan Distortion, or Custom.
#5
Yeah, Fender guitars like Strats and Teles have strings that are spaced farther apart and therefore are F-spaced. Your ibanez wouldn't need F-spaced. +1 on the Dimarzio evolutions, I am having them installed in my Jackson as we speak so i dont know exactly how good they are yet, but vai uses them so they must kick ass!

-3 for the Evolutions for metal, unless you're a big-time shredder who has to be the centre of attention all the time. A pair of Breeds for traditional heavy tones, or a D-Sonic/Breed combo for a more contemporary sound.

Your guitar might need F-spaced pickups, a lot of Ibanezes use them. Measure the string spacing from E to E across the centreline of the pickup coil nearest the neck (both pickups). If its 48mm it's standard spaced, if it's 51.5mm it's F-spaced.

Nothing wrong with them, they're just not particularly suited to the styles you've said you play. The Evo's are treble heavy and exceptionally clear, they're designed for shredding, pure and simple. If you're a virtuoso guitarist who wants to showcase their ability they're fantastic, if you want to play stuff in a band situation they're not ideal. They're designed to stand out, which is great if your a solo artist, not so great if you need to switch between playing lead parts and playing rhythm in a band.

The D-Sonics you're best bet, particularly if you like Linkin Park - I think one of their guitarists uses it.

I definitely suggest the D-Sonic for your bridge pick up. The guitarist from Linkin park uses them, and they are designed for Drop Tunings (hence the name Drop Sonic), so it'll handle your slipknot stuff excellently, they also have just enough treble to cut through for solos, and plenty of low end for the drop tunnings. I have one in my guitar and it was one of the best choices I've made. Check 'em out.

If you're looking for a balanced pick up for the neck then you should look at the breed, its perfect to get that excellent clean, aswell as it can dip into the heavy solo'ing too since its a medium output pickup.
Check out www.guitarcenter.com they carry the D-Sonic, you might have to search abit to find it but Im certain it is on there.

Honestly they're perfect for what you listen to, the guitar player for linkin park uses them, they can handle as much distortion as you can throw at them and they still sound crystal clear on clean, the solo's have enough treble to cut through and the tone is top of the line. Its John Petrucci's signature pick up and he's one of the best on the planet so no wonder the pickup is so damn good. The versitility is amazing, you wont regret it!!

Super Distortion is apparently very bassy and very middy. Not bad for playing rhythm, but i hear it isn't too good for leads.

get a dimebucker for the bridge position, it's a bit pricy(for me anyways) but they sound great, I had one put in this old Epiphone les paul a long time ago, and it sounds so much better now than it did back then, I wouldn't trade that sound for the world, but maybe for a Blackie replica hahaha............... no clapton fans in here?...............is this thing on?............................I know you're out there I can hear you leaving

Dimarzio is basically oriented towards shred, so yes it would definitely be sufficient, also take a look at the guitar players who use them;

D-Sonic is John Petrucci signature pickup and the Breed is one of Steve Vai's signature pick ups, both those players shred like crazy, thats a good hint to how sufficient they would be for shred

Well I put a Evolution neck in the neck pos in my Gibson SG, and it is just perfect for me. I honestly could not have a better pickup for my style of playing. I play mostly softer metal and 80's hair metal but for leads it has that kinda slightly overdriven max distortion les paul sound thats just absolutely perfect. I guess they sound just like Vai's Ibanez on For the Love of God...Perfect, I played a thing for my German class a few weeks ago, (christmas songs, I got extra credit to play off some sheet music for my teacher) and the tone was just SO GOOD when it was put up a little, every one in that class who played guitar (about 7 guys, they are all shredders, 2 are FEstudents, 5 just live here) just looked in awe during my solo at the tone, and they were all asking me about my setup after class. Evos are THAT good. I suggest an Evolution (NOT Evolution-2) for the neck, or an Air-Norton.
#36
I put a Super Distortion in my Epiphone Explorer about a year ago, but it was a defective pup so I dont know how they sound from MY experience but...Maiden uses them if that helps, and I know a lot of 80's metal bands did. (BTW, the other pup i put into the epiphone, PAF standard, was just great as well, awesome tone! But if you want to go that route I suggest PAF-Pro)

just wanted to clear something up

"The guitar part is recommended for the neck position on bolt-on trem guitars and bridge position on set-neck fixed-bridge instruments."

this will be going into the neck, but my guitar is a fixed bridge (Bolt on neck tho)

it will still be fine right?
