Ok, I just got used fender bassman head made back in the 70s. The head is rated at 4 ohms. If I were to use an 8 ohm cab with it would that damage the head other than not having as much output?

i dont think it would have enough power to drive the cab


edit: i dont know if it would hurt it. Im taking a crazy guess. Maybe it would overload it some how?

it would work, of course.

but with mismatched impedences you run the risk of damaging the speaker/output transformers of the amp.

some amps can do that just fine, most of them you shouldnt. some amps, that will really mess them up.
