i am practicing the minor pentatonic in E now, but after a while i start playing the same stuff over and over.
should i try other scales and or different keys to improve?

I think Pentatonic is an easy scale for beginners, but i think you should try learning the minor harmonic scale. It sounds awesome, and if you add a little delay, it kicks ass. In case you dont know, minor harmonic is:

W H W W H m3 H

W=whole step
H=half step
m3=minor 3rd, or a step and a half (3 frets)

my friend uses this scale all the time, and he can make ANYTHING out of this scale.


And when soloing over progressions with dominant 7th chords, use the mixolydian:

W W H W W H W
