pretty sure they used Marshalls, i dont know what kinds though.
Some people dislike Dream Theater and that is sad but wait you should be doing this or I will do this and that is not good. Unless you want this to be you you will like them and all good will come from it.

i think that was the period where they used several layered amps in the studio, marshalls, mesas and a bunch of other stuff.

I thought I heard James say he used pedals on Ride the Lightning... Doesn't mean he didn't use Marshalls, just saying. I actually like the tone on RTL better than MOP... MOP is too dark and muddy IMO.

you can use a pedal and a marshall together without any adverse consequences, so he probably usedpedalsanda marshall

"Effects and preamp switching are accomplished with a BRADSHAW RSB 18R Rack Switcher with a remote pedal board. Kirk's tech, Justin Crew, uses the pedalboard enabling Hammett to have free reign of the stage. This also keeps the stage less cluttered due to the size of the pedalboard. "

Must be nice not having to switch your own pedals...

^Yep....

Anyway, I thought they used Mark IIC+s on AJFA ??
Tone is all ...... well probably 75%, in your fingers.
The rest depends on your wallet's thickness !!

Keep the faith, baby!!

I'm thinking they used Mesa Mk III or IV... I'm not sure though but for the cleans I think they have used a Roland JC-120

^^

that's when Kirk became a full on Wah and rack mount everything...

That would be strange... wonder if he does the wah for him too

No Kirk does his own wah. Check out any of the Black album tour vids, there are no pedals on the stage except a couple of strategically placed Wah's.
