I'm helping the school paper out by creating a music playlist for their upcoming issue. The theme is love/hate, just in time for valentines day. Here's what I have so far:

I tried to arrange it so that the songs progressed towards strong love, then grew slowly into hate /hopelessness as it got to the end.

Any worthwhile additions? Or should any of the ones on the list be taken off?

Well, no one is going to listen to it. Me and my friends on the paper are seniors, so they basically run the show. They wanted something different so...they came to me

I don't think I've heard that one, I'll give it a listen.

Why not put some more well known songs on there?

Also, mad props for Sonata Arctica

Thanks.

Well, My friend approached me of all people because she wanted something different. so I tried to stay away from stuff that was too well known. The past few months' playlists have been totally mainstream, so my friend suggested I make a more obscure rock/metal one.

Add

She Hates Me by Puddle Of Mud at the end

I can't believe I didn't think of that sooner

'lip gloss and black' or 'nevada's grace' by atreyu
'continental' or 'armageddon' by alkaline trio
'overdose' or 'falls apart' by hurt
all those for hate
and for love..
'thirty-three', 'lily', 'farewell and goodnight', or anything else by smashing pumpkins off of mellon collie. i'd say the two best songs would be 'armageddon' and 'stand inside your love' (smashing pumpkins).

EDIT: i should be slapped for not remembering 'more than a feeling' by boston. you should definitely use that song too.

Paint It Black - the Rolling Stones.
Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan
Hello, I Love You - The Doors
Pictures of Lily - The Who (Possibly the best song about masturbation ever written. And, if you don't have a girlfriend, that's what you end up doing on Valentine's Day anyway.)
Cold Shot - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Manic Depression - Jimi Hendrix
Love or Confusion? - Jimi Hendrix
Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
Layla - Derek and the Dominoes (Come on! One of the greatest songs ever written, period.)
I'm sure I'll think of some more later.

+1 for This Love by Pantera. Also:

GNR - November Rain or Sweet Child O' Mine

and more for hate:
Rise Against - Blood to Bleed
Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter

I wish our school paper was cool enough to have playlists.

I ****ing hate that song, sorry.

On topic: Mad props for the Isis song in there (and NIN). Dulcinea is the best song off "Absence of Truth", but what does it have to do with love? I can never understand his screaming, so ya.

Man, who ever listens to this playlist will get a rude shock that it doesn't have any pop/punk/emo sound to it. Also, how do people listen to it? Do you play it through the PA or something? That would be funny.

Gotcha man. I understand completely. Sweet idea for the progression of the meaning of songs.

Dulcinea is a character from Don Quixote whom he was in love with, and apparently is used in today's world to describe someone who you have a hopeless devotion towards.
And no one is listening to the playlist, sadly. A picture is just published in the paper (lame, I know). That NIN wouldn't fly very well if it was played...

Edit: to funkbass: Thanks, I'm glad you like the idea
