He's getting old now i just think he wants to live out his days in America. Plus it will give the team good press. He gets payed regardless so i think it was a choice he made for location also soccer isn't as popular in America so i don't think he'll have so much attention from the press.

Too much, I could have sold them a cabbage with a blonde wig on for a tenner that's almost indistinguishable.

Approximately £500 000

The amount they get paid is absurd and disgusting really.

That said, I think NBA basketball players get more than that? Ah well, basketball is at least entertaining to watch (and play).

Some baseball players make in excess of $100,000,000 a year.

In fact, most do.

Are you sure?

^ He did say a year.

Beckham will be making like, $52 000 000 a year.

And let's be honest, baseball > football, especially in America, which also has a much larger population than the UK.

(That based on $1 000 000 week. Someone said it was $1 280 000 over 5 years. But yeah, *shrug*)

Its all for the money. The MLS sucks. Its not like he'll benfit as a player.
Overall Beckham is overrated. (And I'm a lifelong Man U fan)
The MLS will use it as a publicity move too. Just like they did with Pele in the 80's

Kanchelskis for the win. Back to the good old days.

EDIT to guy a post or two above: Football is just flat out boring, it's much better to see at junior level when you get decent scorelines and there's always something happening. When it's on TV it's just, "Ooooh, the right back's past it to the left back, left back to the centre back. The centre back's passed it to the right winger! Ooooh, exciting now! The winger's past it straight back to the keeper, who's kicked it out to the right back. The cycle continues.

thats not why he made the decision, he loves attention.

I think it was just cos he wants more attention, and he thinks that bringing football to a new country will get him that attention.

I don't understand how people can say "Football is so boring" and then turn around and watch a 4.5 hour baseball game that is embodiment of boring.

What the hell is Beckham smoking? Then again, Real Madrid wastes all of it's players talent with lack of organization...but come on, the American soccer league?

To be honest he was never gonna get in to any of the top clubs in Europe, he'd probably end up somewhere like Spurs or Newcastle, where he wouldn't really have made much of a difference anyway. Now he's in USA, where people still think he's good and hes on ridiculous amounts of money: Right choice Mr. Beckham.

I <3 soccer/football (I'm from the US and think that this "soccer" notion is ridiculous. You use your feet for crying out loud. American football you just run... Besides the fact that we didn't even make up the game anyway, but whatever.

The MLS sucks giant balls. It was such a nice thing to watch the world cup last year so I could see some good players for once. I wish I could see some European football (whatever the leagues are, I don't know anything about it), but I don't think that anybody broadcasts it here because Americans are fucking ignorant when it comes to sports. Except for Ultimate Frisbee, that's just awesome, but conventionally:
Football/Soccer > (American) Football > Baseball > Basketball

it's actually shaping up to be about £1,000,000 a week!

but that's not so much for his footballing skills as the merch money he will bring them.

he wont revolutinise the footbal there, he's only going for a semi-retirement type thing, get himself out of the limelight of the major european football.
