grain filler is a clear (sometimes colored) substance that is rubbed into the wood's grain to make the wood surface level isntead of bumpy. And sanding sealer is basically a couple coats of lacquer placed ontop of the grain filler to seal the wood and provide and even smoother surface to work with.
