After experiencing a early life crisis.....I started to question the purpose of life (Not the meaning of life). Last night i had a revelation and I wanted to hear other people reason for life.

To start.. I have been thinking alot about what I want to do for the remainder of my life on this material plane. Like Most of you I found that I wanted to aspire to be a great musician, travel and live an enjoyable/prosperous life. Soon after making that decision I ran into a problem. The problem being that in order to be prosperous and consequently be able to travel or even have time to play guitar... I would need enough capital to do so. And I thought " Do I really have to spend the rest of my days working some bs office job like in office space to get enjoy the finer things in life? Do I have to work a tiresome manual labor job that would leave me downtrodden and unable to make ends meet? Or do I really have to open up a business and then be so concerned about it that I cant go to New Zealand or London at will? As much as i hate to admit it...I got a yes in all situations and many more working situations at that.

At this point in my thought process I took a step backward and re asked the question of what makes one happy(In 2007) and more so what do most people strive to attain in their lives. I found 5 things that to me were vague enough to fit all enjoyable qualities in life

1. Loving family... a suitable wife or wives/husband and good relationships with people in general

2. Contribution to society.. helping those in need.. Trying to reach a utopia

3. Pursuit of Knowledge.. Explaining everything that we know about

4.Capital/Money.. Being able to buy for any material possession or property with out being told no.

5. Pleasure... Sex/ Drugs/Art/Music.... What ever gets you high

The Only one of those 5 qualities that I dislike is 4. So I started thinking of ways to get rid of it so that it wouldn't be such a big deal. But I ran into some problems.

1. If People stop working then the world will stop operating and money will not be distributed.

2. Alot of people don't want to give up their positions with money like Oprah..

After hours and hours of delusional thought the only answer I thought of was to make someone else do the work for us and consequently every task from farming to flying airplanes would be left up to those being.

Before you Jump to conclusions... Those beings must be ROBOTS.. Because they can do all of those functions if we progress enough technologically. Otherwise there is no escaping the hell of capitalism and we will spend the majority of our lives working when when we should be working towards the other 4 qualities of happiness.

This is all my radical opinion so don't get too pissed off okay

^Post seriously or don't post.

Interesting. I've thought similar things myself. I didn't come to the conclusion that we needed to invent robots but I think it's a nice addition.

Sorry if it came out as if an idiot wrote it (well one did) but I meant it seriously.

But in the long run, I've only seen the for us purpose of prolonging our species, everything else materialistic like buying a nice home, or something like travelling, was something we made up to better our lives to make them interesting, but we also need those to encourage a mating partner.

But yeah, in 2007, I don't want to be a father of 23 rascals at the age of 18.

For us mortals who weren't born into a filthy rich family, most of life means working from dawn till dusk to put food on the table, while having to tolerate all kinds of people whom we may not like.

That's what makes us men men (and women women): being able to fit in society and work our asses off alongside the biggest morons while keeping our sanity and still finding time to enjoy the small and rare pleasures that life has to offer, without going on a stupid people hunting spree like I sometimes feel like doing.

I look forward to the day when all the spoilt uneducated brats who inhabit these forums will step out of their dreamworld and realize that life is about finding the determination to do things that you don't want to do on a daily basis.

Yeah, it's a pessimistic view on life, but at least it's a bullshit-free view.
Dear God, do you actually answer prayers?

Yes, but only in a way indistinguishable from random luck or the result of your own efforts.

A very interesting idea you have there. However there are plenty of people in the world who are hard for money and they still get by in life.
Its a good idea to plan ahead and things, but if i was you i wouldn't worry about it. It will just get you down. Im with Flyingmojo.

We pay someone to build the robots though. I mean, robots will build robots, but somebody has to build the robots that build robots. Man, humans are greedy selfish rats and as far as we're concerned, "I" is the only one that exists in this world. Money was the result of this philosophy. People can't share, so they need a way to decide who gets what, when in reality everyone is entitled to an equal share of everything.

We're pretty much ****ed beyond repair, sad but true.

what a horrible outlook. i can seriously say i disagree with all of this completely.

you have the power to shape your future. you do not know what life will bring, but once you understand what is needed to live a both mentally and physically satisfying life, you can help make choices that affect the way your future is shaped based on the things you understand will make you succeed.

it is never a waste of time to think into the future. it is only a waste of time to look back on the past. you cannot change the past, but you can change the future.

what people need to accept is that capitalism is the only things can operate im not going in depth in this, but one point that you need to ackownledge is that we are very lucky to live in this day and age and the fact the you have to find a job to finance your dreams is the only way unless you win the lotto and lets face its not that big a deal if you are dedicated to what you really want to do you can achieve it which is a vary special thing, and its only for capitalism that you have plane to travel where you want
Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let people have guns ...why should we let them have ideas?

I absolutely LOVE working every hour god sends for minimum wage to line the pockets of some millionaire head of company elitists. Yep, capitalism is great!

Perhaps I'm being ignorant but what would be so terrible about a more equal distribution of wealth?

Because the people who control the world's money are... well... rich. They don't want to give you their money. Bastards.

They say work hard and you will succeed. These assholes didn't work hard, just got lucky and stabbed enough of their friends in the back.

I know that in practice it would be impossible to get money off these people but i mean the theory of even wealth distribution is alright isnt it?

It is, but we shouldn't have wealth at all. I guess giving every person on earth a $60,000 US yearly income would solve a lot of problems. There definitely is enough money in the world.

this probably wont make any sense cos i'm knackered......

but exactly how would you get anybody to do anything they didn't want to if it's not for money, a prize or something.

Who would empty your rubbish, unblock the u bend of your toilet and a million and one other unsavory jobs if getting paid isn't the reason?

I agree that capitalism is a naff concept with many unequal and nasty sides to it but what would you replace it with?

An advanced form of socialism or capitalism would work, IMO. As long as a Cold War wasn't fcking it up :-D

I like the robot idea, personaly. It makes sense that our work will get easier and easier until at last, we can use our lives to further art/culture/science and so on while robots do the physical work. That'd be cool.. :-)

That's exactly the mindset of humans. You see, there used to be this little thing called 'generosity' which was sadly killed and replaced by 'greed' and 'laziness.'

So now the general human population won't do shit unless they are paid.

You guys are all so lazy.

Want robots to work for you and you want everyone to have equal amount of wealth regardless of how much they work for it.

What a great society that would be.

I know. Do you disagree?

If you do then you're a stupid political pawn. Maybe when you grow up and realize how money doesn't come from hard work you'll agree with me.

Of course hard work alone will not make you a millionaire.

You need good education, for the most part, to get a high paying job. A hard working job does not equal high paying. Not every rich person is a backstabbing cheater who punched pregnant ladies to get promoted.

My parents were poor as hell but worked hard, joined military for cheap college, passed college and now pretty wealthy.

Giving people free money would not solve anything or make life better.

In theory, but it hasn't worked in the past. The people in control of distributing the wealth will always keep more for themselves, and it's human nature to want more than the other guy. I have to agree that robots would be cool though.
If you could blow up the world with a flick of a switch,

Would you do it?

What would you do?
