Is it just the tabs I was looking at (some Motley Crue, Avenged, Soundgarden.) Or are more and more Tabs needing Guitar Pro or some other program to even look at...

Guitar Pro is a wonderful program. Alot of people like to hear all parts of the song as they play along with it.

Personally we(my band) write songs, then tab them into GP to have a hard copy of our work. Its incredibly easy to use and very versatile.

GP also has an export feature to put tabs into ASCII form. I guess people dont like submitting a GP version and text version of their tabs.
I downloaded a .exe once, opened it, and it pretty much nailed my computer, and yes, by nailed I mean, got it's **** out and shoved it in my computers ass.

Powertab does all of that as well.

It's free, though. That's why I have it.
