I have played guitar for 2 years and recently got my hands on a bass and have a few questions.

This is a difficult question to word, but like stairway to heaven for guitar, what song on bass is one that all bass players should know?

Also, what is a reasonably hard song that isn't repetitive but isn't a slap song?

ALL bassists should know Play That Funky Music, Another One Bites Dust, and Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

Awesome bassline. And I bet everyone here knows it. Sugarhill Gang sampled it.

Can anyone give a definite answer?

Yes. If you have active pickups/active EQ on your bass, use the high. If you have passive pickups and no EQ, just a tone knob/knobs on your bass, use low.

Active basses need 9v batteries to power the EQ, so if yours doesn't have a battery compartment, chances are it's passive and belongs in the low input.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me: no, nor woman neither... nor women neither.
