Go with a Gibson Sg faded or a Fender Americian Stratocaster.....
The SG was about 600 the last time i looked on muciaciansfriend.com
the Fender is 950
depends on what genre you like more

oh it wont be your last guitar. You may never get rid of it, but you will never be satisfied with just one guitar. at least not for very long.

you'll just have to try a bunch of different guitars. find a quality you like, and look for more guitars with it. i have a Schecter C-1 Elite, and i love it. i've had it for about 6 months, and im not looking for another guitar yet. i probably wont be for a couple years, because i found what i like. my friend hasn't found that yet, and he goes through guitars like i go through picks. keep trading in guitars until you find one you like.

I would definitely say a Fender Strat, from Standard all the way to American made, they rock. Oh also you can block off the trem of you don't want to use it.
