I'm pretty new to guitar and when i looked at the chords to some songs, there were X's on the strings. I get which strings are which but what do the X's mean when there are zeros in there to?

like this:
C
e ---|---|---|---|---|
B -x-|---|---|---|---|
G ---|---|---|---|---|
D ---|-x-|---|---|---|
A ---|---|-x-|---|---|
E ---|---|-o-|---|---|

is that a c chord? well the tab says that the x's are the notes you have to press and the 0 i think is the dead note...
