Ok, this is something I've been meaning to do for a while, and is something I'm quite passionate about:

A thread dedicated to good unsigned bands, submitted by UG members.

There're a lot of good unsigned bands (or bands signed to tiny labels) out there who are absolutely awesome, and hopefully this thread can be somewhere that we can promote our favourite ones.

Now I'm well aware that 90% of UG members are in bands, and so one of the "rules" is going to have to be that you can't suggest your own band for obvious reasons.

With a bit of luck we'll be able to build up a list of good "unsigned" bands that people can check out, along with a very brief description (ie. influences and where they're based).

Basic guidelines:

  • Only bands that are "tight", ie. where the instruments are clearly playing in time
  • Only "Unsigned" / small-ish bands. Not U2, lolz.
  • Only post bands that have half decent recordings. Use your own judgement.
  • Please try to post a brief description of the band, even if it's their genre from their MySpace
  • Post links, duh! MySpace, PureVolume etc. We don't want to just take your word for it
  • Once a band is posted, I'll add it to this first post in the list below

The bands:
I'll start us off...

The Riverclub : awesome, dancey bass lines, and a dash of synth for good measure.
Haemostatic Picnic Races : At The Drive In meets Minus The Bear
Pictures of Shaghai : catchy, well arranged songs with Brand New-esque vocal melodies

*hopes someone will kiss his ass* tehehe

Sexy Indie rock that will remove your pants slap your in the face with them and throw it across the room and kiss you on the cheek.

If you like bright eyes you'll love them.

Beautiful acoustic music. The singer of Daphne Loves Derby at his best.

Cliché acoustic emo. But performed with grace. Amazing voice.

A couple of you probably have listened to Casey. It's acoustic but not too emo.

Good music, more "radio" type music. But good. Local band.

The guitarist of Copeland does this. It's sweet and different.

If you like Dashboard you'll like this. And the girl is cute.

This is probably one of my top favorite bands. Perfectly voice and guitar harmony.

A local "screamo" band. Singer is sexy and they pack a good punch.

those are the bands I listen to often

edit: Jeff I was kidding but thanks lol.
I don't see the point of you posting it on the first page. Seems like a bunch of extra work for you. If people keep it clean it will be easy to read in the first place.

I will aid in keeping this clean!

No comments or conversations in this thread or anything please! Let's try to keep it good and organized cause I'm a fairy like that.

Good local bands from my area. Their guitarist is a real douche bag, but their music is still pretty good.

Chesterfield, a band formed in 1993 in Wyoming, now in Southern Oregon. Seen them 4 times, GREAT band. They're signed, but only recently and you don't know them.

5 Days Dirty Played here with Chesterfield, awesome guys.

Man Of Action This band was the bets live act I've ever seen, too bad they broke up. They used to be called Derby and Gregory Bruce Campbell played the 9-string bass with them. Holy shit. Search for Gregory on youtube.

How could I forget Better Luck Next Time They've gotten play on Kroq and Sirius radio with their song TGI Goodbye. They're unsigned in the states though. Somehow they're on a Japan-only label though.

You should make your sig smaller, you might get banned. (When someone gets banned for a long/huge sig they're usually unbanned as soon as they promise to shorten it, but still...)

Just make the font alittle smaller to save your self some hassle.

I think they're unsigned, if not, my bad.

I didn't think so. I didn't think Converge were an edge band?

www.myspace.com/vanitytheft

Best female band I've heard since Sleater-Kinney. I went to High School with their guitarist (and dated her). Great girls.

www.myspace.com/theexitstrategy

A band we played with from New York. Fugazi-ish. A kind of Punk sound that no one does anymore.

www.myspace.com/kingtut

Sometimes ambient, sometimes danceable instrumental electronic.

And since I won't be in much longer:

Poor advice.

Converge are in no way an 'edge' band, and I've never heard any Converge songs anywhere near about preaching or singing about straight edge. Prehaps because...hmmm...I don't know...they're not an edge band? But I suppose that doesn't matter because they're 'queer'. Riiiiigghhtttttt, nice primitive slang you got going there, might wanna stretch your vocabulary a little.

In other news, We Are Carnivores are pretty great. I checked them out when I heard they were supporting Converge on the show I was going to. Was impressed.

Hmmm.

I do recall my previous statement being a question, although I may be wrong.

I made a mistake. Pull the stick out of your pompous little ass.
